One thing Iʻm curious about, and Iʻve posted this recently on the 10.10 forum, is how do these Wifi dependent features work at your local coffee shops, libraries, and schools? I know the Instant Hotspot feature isnʻt working for you, but are the others?
Call handoffs and non-imessage text messages?
thanks!
Actually, they all work fine. Since your network accounts all sync (through iCloud, I assume), all 3 devices automatically log into the same network. Since it's a small shop I assume they only have one router and everything seems to be on the same subnet so I haven't had any issues at all with anything else not handing off correctly. It's actually a little bit of a PITA at times... I switch between desktops and apps on the MacBook using Command-Tab so if I pick up my phone to do something there, I now have the extra icon for the Handoff application on the Command-Tab popup when I switch back to my MacBook... It's not really a problem, but it keeps throwing me offtrack just a bit seeing the extra icon. I'm sure I'll get used to it. Mail seems to be the biggest issue because messages are pushed to my iPhone so I get those first (Mail on OS X pulls email on a schedule... or at least that must be how I have it set... At any rate, mail always hits my phone first). So, I pick up the phone, look at the message, put the phone back down and switch back to the mac and now I have the handoff icon there. Again, not a problem really, it'll just take some getting used to.
I'd imagine that someplace larger might experience some issues if they have multiple overlapping routers/networks or something. We used to have issues at the company I used to work for because of overlapping wireless signals. Things that needed to be on the same network would end up on different subnets sometimes in places where we had overlapping signals and we'd then lose communication between the devices (handheld terminals and portable thermal printers that were mounted on forklifts ran into the issues quite often. They'd end up logged into different access points and be invisible to each other causing errors).
