Yeah, OTA only release except for devices not supported by 17 with the one exception of iPad 6th Gen

I always have the feeling that updates like iOS 16.7 will drain battery, make your iphone slower to force you into a phone upgrade

Installed 16.7 last night and it seems alright.
Will try and push it out to a bunch at work via intune today whenever 16.7 shows up as an option to distribute.

Disregard the feeling and go with facts.
Sure, they have released a few bad updates years ago that slowed down devices and Apple had explained why that was.
Iphone 4 should never have gotten iOS 7 released, Apple adminted that. On the other hand, it made the device live a bit longer and being up to date.

The CPU throttling feature that was introduced wasn't explained properly and also a way to try and deal with the bad batteries shipped with some of the XS devices.

When looking at battery tests online it seems to vary much on the device if the battery life gets better or worse with an update.

I’m afraid there’s no way to update devices that are supported by iOS 17, at least manually with IPSW, right?

I was able to download iPadOS 16.6.1 so I think I will update my iPads with that version this weekend, while it is still signed.

Unfortunately IPSW’s are only available for the devices not getting iOS 17. While there are no features listed in 16.7, I’d imagine there are many bug fixes + security updates that were just patched 2 days ago. So I’d go to 16.7 honestly

I updated my 14 pm to IOS 16.7 and now I cannot backup through finder. I use a cable to connect to finder. I receive an error that states finder cannot read my iPhone. Anyone else having a problem? I run Catalina on an older MacBook pro. I was fine with 16.6

Haha I actually also have an older MacBook Pro running Catalina. I gave it a try on my end and it worked. Restart both your Mac and iPhone and try again.

If that doesn’t help, reset location & privacy on your iPhone. You will have to configure those settings/apps again, but it won’t take long. This might help as it resets usb connections to previously used computers

iPhone 14 Pro Max was on iOS 16.2 prior to upgrade to iOS 16.6.1 IPSW then OTA to iOS 16.7 RC

Non-person sender, e.g. Yahoo, Google, Line, show up with names all in uppercase on iOS 16.2 but after upgrading to iOS 16.6.1 IPSW via Finder on Monterey, the sender names are now showing all in lowercase... Tried iOS 16.7 RC OTA and nothing changed even after multiple reboots... Something trivial but really weird change...

EDIT: Will now be updating to public non-beta release of iOS 16.7

Exactly, if you enter into system updates, it should show you both, iOS 16.7 and iOS 17.0.3. You can choose, but remember, it is an OTA update, things could go wrong, just try to have a good WiFi signal and enough battery.

I personally don’t like OTA updates, but I guess at this point they are reliable enough.
