M1 Max 32Gb Sonoma 14.0

Tried exporting a 17-minute video from the Insta360 app for the first time just now and it must have taken over 10 minutes. Is this normal? Not experienced with exporting video but will be doing this a lot shortly so trying to set expectations.

File info and activity monitor below. Can you notice anything unusual or am I just expecting too much? 5GB file.

EDIT: Just tried again after closing a lot of webpages. A 4 min video took 8min 12 seconds to export! Feels bad.

It seems normal.
The dimensions of the video are quite large.
If you're only using it to upload online or something, you can go down to 3840x2160(4k) or 1920x1080(HD).

I wouldn't expect full 100% usage of both CPU and GPU from the Insta360 app. Especially because I believe it has some functions specifically tied to the camera, so it won't be possible to use other software easily.

Ah okay thanks, I'll try lowering the res. Just want decent quality for YouTube and similar!

Fwiw, on a M1 Ultra I'm resizing and cropping an 8k movie to 4k. With 100% cpu usage, it does this at about 28 fps. So a 1 hour 8k movie would take about 55minutes to render. Your M1 Max is doing fine.
