Background:

Bought a 14" M3 Max 64G 1TB. Thought it was great. Did a test export with Devinci Resolve (details to follow) and it took 37s. Decided however 1TB was to small for my work flow. Returned it and ordered 14" M3 Max 64GB 2TB. Tried the same export. 1m 4s. May not seem like a big difference but it's about 70% longer. After some digging, Apple diagnostics gave me the error PPF001. Contacted Apple they had no idea and just said return it as it's still within 14days.

Question:

Could that fan error have led to slower exports?

I'm tempted to order both 1TB and 2TB version to compare speeds. I know that should not be different in theory but curious. Thoughts are welcome

In case anyone is interested in the export itself:

If the fan isn't working, then yes, for a longer render the CPU could be throttling more because it's not being cooled properly.

I would expect the 2TB SSD to be no slower than the 1TB, but if you want to be sure, then run a free disk speed test utility like BlackMagic.

It does sound like if the fan is not working correctly, the SoC cores may not be able to run as hard as long due to thermal throttling.
