Search and Flag in Mail not working properly

Using Mac OS Sonoma 14.4.1 - I've found it difficult to search and find known emails by sender name. I scrolled through my inbox and flagged a few of the emails I wanted to have quick access to, but they do not show up in the "Flagged" sidebar either. I can see them flagged however in iOS.

I did find that after force closing Mail and relaunching, the issue seems to be improved.
Anyone else seeing erratic behavior in Mail?
