With iPhone 15 Pro Max, if you are taking Ultra HD Videos at 60FPS you can directly store it into an SSD thats mount with your iPhone using USB-C. Can you recommend me some of those SSDs compatible with iPhone 15 Pro Max?

Pretty sure most would work.

I tried three of mine that all connected.

Samsung T7 Shield 2TB
Sandisk Extreme Pro 4TB
Sandisk Extreme 2TB

I’ve been using Sandisk Extreme (& more recently Pro’s) for years, 1/2/4TB’s. Always my go to for portable SSD’s. I don’t think you’ll go wrong with any of the bigger brands though.

The general recommendation from most people that have tried is to go with the Samsung T7 Shield and AVOID the Sandisk Pro series.

Sandisk Pro uses 7W of power and the iPhone only supports power delivery up to 4.5W. Peak power draw for the T7 shield is around 4 - 4.5W.

The upside is you might find some good Samsung t5/t7 accessories made for the Blackmagic cameras that can easily adapt to a small rig.

Something like a Manfrotto pixie, a PGYtech phone holder for the Osmo Pocket and a t7 hotshoe mount might be about as small as you could get with currently available accessories. But I'm certain that Neewer and PGYtech will bring out dedicated iphone 15/ssd rigs soon enough.

BTW I had a SanDisk Extreme die on me with 1TB of important data on it just the other day. It was lightly used, only rarely connected to a computer. After that experience I would never buy another SanDisk product.

I have always been scared of this so i use a triple backup. Samsung t7 shield, Sandisk extreme pro, & samsung t7

I used that little sdd as extra storage to carry around with my MacBook Air since I was too cheap to buy one with big storage. When it died it means now I have to replace it and then go dig up all the stuff I had on it from my backups.

I have 3 1/2” rotational drives in an old Intel Mac Pro that has many, many more years on them than this SanDisk. They should change their name to SureDie, then you could say that at least they’re honest.

That's aweful. Some drives are less reliable than others. However there is always a risk of failures or data corruption.

I prefer recording directly to the iPhone and then transferring to the SSD. The external ssd is only used as the editing driving containing:
-Copy of the original video
-Cache of rendering files

However this won't be viable for everyone if you are i
will record 2-4 hours of footage but not backup to iCloud for days.

I bought the Crucial X9 Pro 2TB and am loving it. Super small and compact and I have it magnetically attached to my iPhone with a small USB adapter set up so there’s no cables. Very clean set up and it works great.

Are you guys all planning to record/output video to 10Gbps external SSD?

I was watching the review in YT, that Crucial X9 looks so tempting because of its compact size, looks and speed. Unfortunately its twice more expensive than T7

i've seen some conflicting reports ( and even a video from an influencer) stating gen 4 ssd's are not recognized on the 15 pm.

i can confirm this is not the case.

ive got 2 samsung 990 nvme drives, 4tb. gen 4. they are each mounted in a dockcase enclosure. one formatted for exfat for my non mac peripherals, and apfs for apple ecosystem use. i use iphone in a rig so this setup is not as cumbersome as it looks.

Crucial x6 and an old Samsung t3 works great for me

My sandisk extreme 1tb unfortunately did not. Would record one clip and that’s it. Learned from another user that it has to do with power draw on sandisk drives being too high causing the issue. And I can confirm that even connected to my MacBook the sandisk always runs really warm and seems to draw a lot of power to work. Ymmv

I got a 2Tb LaCie one from the Apple Store. It works great and looks great, too. It was also used in the iPhone 15 Pro ad.

Wow, that enclosure really looks awesome!

Hi,
I’m wondering if WD_black P40 works as a ssd for iPhone 15 pro?
I was about to place an order but WD online service told me it doesn’t work for smartphones. I still have doubts.🤔
Anybody could confirm?
Thanks.

So looking for something a little cleaner and secure I upgraded my SSD setup by buying this MagSafe wallet for my Crucial X9 Pro 2TB SSD. The magnets are strong and the SSD is well-protected and comfortable in the hand. Makes for a very clean and secure ProRes video setup.
