If the iPod touch 4th gen has the same single core A4 processor as the iPhone 4, why not support it alongside it?

True multitasking sounds tough to run on anything older than the dual core A5 but if one A4 product can take it why not the other?

Does anyone know why this is the case?

iPhone 4 has twice the RAM. Plus with iOS 7's new eye candy, if it were on a 4th gen iPod it would explode into a black hole due to how intensive it would be for the iPod to handle. I'm betting that the iPhone 4 will struggle with the new UI.
