Does a 2880x1800 even show? Isn't 1920x1200 the max that would show?

you're talking about the different scaled resolution names. it is always showing 2880x1800. in the case of desktop wallpaper, the RMBP displays the wallpaper at the correct native 2880 size.

these people HERE naively thinks that they have such resolution on their really small 15'' screens
but the fact is that resolution is 1920x1080 or 1200 ..

The "Looks like 1440x900" mode runs at 2880x1800. If you set a 2880x1800 wallpaper you will see every single bit of detail in that wallpaper.

The "Looks like 1920x1200" mode runs at 3840x2400, and is then scaled down to 2880x1800.

Lots of people have been confused by this, I think Anandtech's review explains it the best.

I mean that the 2880x1800 wallpaper gets displayed at full resolution, every pixel. You can't see every pixel of a 2880x1800 wallpaper on your 1920x1200 display

Also web browsers are not a reliable way to report resolution. I think that Web Browsers will report a resolution of 1440x900 and a CSS pixel ratio of 2.0. That way websites don't render as tiny on screen, instead they render as large as they would on a non-retina display. The web browser then does the job of rendering text, css, and images (if the site provides them) at retina detail.

this what u said is ONLY vlid in OS X not windows ..
in windows no matter where u are in browser or in desktop .. resol is the same..

I think that the same applies in Windows when you have DPI scaling enabled with a supporting web browser.

True, but you were implying that a 2880x1800 wasn't the resolution that you should use for wallpapers on the RMBP because it didn't really run at 2880x1800. That isn't true.

I made my own, it's a bit different to the normal stuff but I think it fills the void I call my desktop nicely...

That's some picture.

I recommend getting all the pics from Interfacelift. I did the bulk download service for around $2 and got 200+ pictures at the 2880x1800 resolution. I have them rotating as my desktop background. Highly recommended (though the one you link to was newer than my bulk download, so thanks for that. It's one of the best I've seen).
