AT&T - 5G - Atlanta, GA

Similar download to LTE but the upload is much better. Usually only get about 1 mpbs upload on LTE at home.

Honestly **** AT&T for still showing 5Ge. It’s idiotic. People will think it’s like an advanced version of 5G or something. How Apple lets them put whatever they want in the status bar on their phones is incomprehensible. Everyone should just spam call their support and ask “why should I upgrade my phone/plan when I already have 5G? It says 5Ge already?!”

So far in various spots in the Chicago suburbs I’m consistently getting between 70-85 MB/s on 5G from AT&T. By comparison, LTE or “5Ge” is getting about 30-50GB/s. So there is definitely an improvement, though not of an order of magnitude.

5G is worse than LTE on the Verizon network. I went to a park where the cell tower is only a half mile away, right in the line of sight and no interference from trees etc. It was significantly worse than LTE.

Today I went to a city park where the Verzino tower is only a half mile away, in direct line of sight and no interference. 5G continues to be significantly slower than LTE. So I decided to turn off 5G for now.

This thread is proving that the 5G cycle is a dud
I don’t think we’ll see 5G reigning supreme until we’re able to attend crowded events again and users are still pulling these types of speeds.

Yes LTE is capable of these speeds, but LTE is also easily congested.

I’m not surprised. Verizon is basically using a portion of their LTE spectrum to roll out 5G to say they have it. AT&T and T-Mobile are, too, but they also have more dedicated spectrum (T-Mobile has the most right now).

So far, I’ve noticed that 5G is slower than LTE in downtown Chicago, but 5G has been faster in the parts of suburban Chicago I was in today.
