Early reports indicate that BestBuy will carry (almost) a full line of hardware, including 17" LCD, 12" PowerBook, 15" PowerBook, 17" iMac, 15" iMac, eMac, 12" iBook, PowerMac G4 1.25. Notably absent are the high end configurations of the 17" PowerBook and G5 PowerMacs.

Obviously, stock/inventories may change by launch day.

i sure hope best buy won't do apple products tremendous disservice and hide these products at the knee level, locked behind cages like they did with ipods.

i've been to three or four best buys near my town and ipods are nowhere to be seen. unless you went specifically looking for one, you'd never find it. such is not the best way to sell the best mp3 player on market.

I know that people were moaning about best buy, but people go in there to spend money, otherwise they wouldn't carry all of those huge tv's. I'm looking forward to seeing the macs (and someone who knows something about them) there soon!

Doesn't surprise me the high-end models are "missing" since Best Buy is a consumer store. (I think they could do well with the 17" PB since it's so cool looking, but Best Buy is so darned formulaic with everything they do they probably didn't consider something antimathematical like "cool" and just looked at cost.)

Hopefully it'll work out, and they won't disappear again soon. BB's stocking practices have always been quite odd.

Sounds good to me. Apple needs exposure. If you are Joe PC, how in world is it possible for you to see the beauty of OS X? He isn't going to walk into an Apple store, because he has been taught to think macs and slow and stupid. He can't see OS X in TV commercials because Apple has not (never, I think) shown what OS X looks like in their ads. So how does he see it?

He walks into best buy looking for a stereo.....and HELLO!

"Oh, wow, this iMac ain't to bad. Cool, this iMovie thing is really cool. So this is a Mac?"

It will be nice seeing Mac Software on the shelves again....we'll see how this all works out, though.

this is good news, powermacs are more high end computers and they need specialists to sit down and talk with them about a purchase because there is a great deal in software that could easily go along with this purchase, i hope the abscense of the powermac is true.

The more exposure, the better

The more stores Macs can be seen in, the better. I went looking for a Mac when I bought my first because I knew that's what I wanted. Most people aren't going to be that way, so Macs have to be placed where people will see them.

I know I looked at a Mac in a Circuit City store about 6 years ago. Does Circuit City still carry them? If not, any word on an arrangement like those with CompUSA and Best Buy?

no circuit does not carry them anymore because they were neglected and sucked at it, compusa sells them but we dont know about agreements with best buy, this is why its on the rumor page. i remember walking into circuit well after 10.1 was released and it was running 10.0.4 with an imovie 1 demo, well after imovie 2 was out.

I just hope the agreement with best buy is widespread and requires specially trained personel the last thing i want is to see a beautiful imac and some pimply faced ******* explaining how they aren't compatable with anything and are slow yada yada yada

Alienware has a very nice display at the Best Buy near me. Those machines are weird-looking and expensive.

But I'm not fond of Best Buy. There is no help to be found, nobody in there knows anything except how to push, push, push Best Buy's expensive add-on warranties, and on top of that, the prices are not even very good. Some items are outrageously expensive, in fact.

In the meantime, the place is roaringly loud as teenagers trash all the machines on display.

without apple specialists salespeople will steer people away from macs, to something they know more about. they need to have apple trained sales staff to support the sales.

It's too bad they aren't selling the top-of-the-line machines. Atleast they will have most machines in there. Maybe Apple will gain more switchers.

Does anyone have an expected date on this? I hope it's soon!
Do you think that employees of Best Buy can get discounts?
Did anyone else check the Best Buy web-site and see that it's temporarily unavailable?

thats a good thing. when apple sells these powermacs they have to have specialists to sit down with them, certified people, not just apple salesman. there is alot of potential high end software that could walk out the door with this machine. you need people how can tell you and show you logic, final cut, dvd studio pro, photoshop and so on. apple has never let the retail stores like best buy and them sell the top end machiens, and its probably for the best.

I really hope Apple gets into these Best Buy's...so I can correct the people. yeah, let's all go over to the PC department and ask where the Macs are, and if they can show us where (not just point to a corner), and then tell us what the speed difference is and which compares better and such, and then start correcting him and stuff:p

best buy site

Don't get too excited, Best Buy just recently gave their website a face-lift. It was online earlier today but was slow as molasses. I'm GLAD it's offline right now... they need to fix it up a bit. And I didn't see any Apple laptops on there when I was paroosing.

all i have to say is that this has the possibility of being a wise move as long as apple have their own people in store to work the department. sadly best buy employees will not promote apple in a good way (unless you happen to have an apple fanatic in the departemtn). i hope this pans out well

Actually, Alienware is pulling out of Best Buy. Not sure if it was because of who's fault but soon you will not find them at your local store.
