I use the Samsung 49" ultra/ultra wide..... the CHG90..... go big or go home.

I've heard they updated it at the 2019 CES.... same size but with better resolution

The only one is a 1080p resolution right? That has no place in 2019. It's like £1000+ for a 1080p display. That should be illegal.

To be fair it is, £1000 for TWO 1920x1080p displays stuck together. So yes, a total rip off unless you absolutely don't want a join in the middle (e.g. gamers).

True, but I still think it's atrocious value for money. Guess I'm far too 'sensible' and boring.

I looked at the offical UK price, it's actually £1300.... *faints*

I bought the new Acer Nitro XV273K monitor this weekend, mainly for my PC with a beefy graphics card.

The monitor provides 4K up to 144 Hz (4K with one cable up to 120 Hz).

I knew the Mac Mini iGPU supports only 4K @ 60Hz. But I wanted to know how the RX 580 eGPU works with this monitor.

3840 x 2160 native @ 120 Hz works, but scaled 4K HiDPI mode 'Looks like 2560 x 2160' does not work @ 120 Hz, only 60 Hz. So don't buy a 27" 4K 120/144 Hz monitor for only use with a Mac, it's not fully supported in macOS.

Here are the supported resolutions via the RX 580 eGPU:
Scaled HiDPI 60 Hz.jpg

However, it's a great monitor, has a good picture, and two DisplayPort, two HDMI 2.0 ports, for connecting up to four computers.

wow! also that looks like a cool screen

edit:
by the way, packed pixels2 just got announced!
https://www.packedpixels.com

fits more in the MBP forum but hey.

I have a question regarding HDMI vs USB-C connection from mink to monitor.

Is there a pro or con of using one vs the other for a single 4K monitor?

I am not familiar enough about this topic to know the difference but currently I use a HDMI from mini to my Dell 2415 monitor. Am I doing the best thing or should I for whatever reason use the USC C connection?

Thanks in advance

I don't think there's a difference really; it boils down to versions (HDMI 2.0, DP1.2, 1.4 whatever) and whether they support the color space, resolution and refresh rate that your display is using

Ok. Good to know they are interchangeable and no real advantages to either. I used a premium certified 3 ft HDMI just in case-can’t see USB-C being better unless I’m missing something

Thanks again

USB-C usually carries DisplayPort over USB-C.
the only advantage could be if it also has an upstream port for USB, so you can use the displays built-in hub, if it has one.

FYI, there can be a difference between HDMI and DP. On my LG 34UM88C-P monitor, DP works better than HDMI. With HDMI, every time the monitor re-awakes all my desktop windows resize and reposition into a pile in the upper left corner. DP 1.2 works fine. Weird. Not sure if this is a general problem or not.

I was considering selling my 2015 27" iMac and getting a monitor just to use as a dock station for my MBP, maybe later get a mini. But in the end the price I would sell the iMac for just covers the monitor and cables so that did not make much sense. So many decisions and so many monitors, not sure what the best setup would be. These below where some of the monitors I looked at and considered. On the 24" I was looking at dual monitors. Many of these came from users posting in this thread for there setup...

I basically just did what you're contemplating. Sold my 2010 27" iMac, now i'm running this 34" LG https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1348097-REG/lg_34cb99_w_cb99_34_qhd_led_lcd.html with my MacBook Pro and thinking about getting a MacMini within a year or so.
I love my new ultrawide. Going from the 13" screen to 34" made a massive difference for me.
Plus it's still portable when I need it to be.

Even though I said it did not sound like a good idea. I pulled the trigger and sold my 27" 2015 iMac last Sunday and already spent the money. Friday I have a 38" Dell being delivered to hook up to one of my MBP laptops. I am excited to try this setup out. One day down the road I hope to have a mini attached to the monitor. But let me say this a 2nd time "It just makes no sense now" since I have 2016 and 2017 MBP. At least I am down to 2 machines that I have to backup and update.

Nice! I looked at the 38" versions from LG and Dell, but decided it was too big for me...
I'm on a 2014 base model MBP, so a new Mini will be much appreciated once I decide to take the plunge!
Let us know how you like your ultrawide, once you get it in and accommodated to it.

If you have a 27" or 32" 4K monitor that you are particularly happy with, I'd appreciate knowing which one. I’m trying to put together a short list.

Cheers

I bought an ASUS ROG PG279Q as both a secondary monitor for my iMac 5K (HDMI) and primary monitor for my Alienware PC (DisplayPort) and I'm pleased with it. Looks nice and bright with my iMac and the 165Hz GSYNC refresh rate is great with PC games.

just got my ultrafine as well, love it! my only complaint are the speakers... they point down so they sound lifeless and muffled.... Was looking at some Kanto YU2 or Audioengine A2+
