Those on carlinkit latest fw 2022.12 and ios 16.5, can you pls confirm that:
- background (backstage) mode is working
- Gmaps and waze do not 'freeze' location (without opening them manually on the phone or setting location to 'always allow')
Thanks!

I am on 2022.07 and had gmaps freezing location, going into carlinkit settings and turning off gps fixed it.

Upgraded to 2023.05. Boot time seems much faster than before, background mode works as expected, but location freezes still occur randomly. I'll try turning GPS off in the interface, but that means it's back to the phone which usually sits in my pocket. Will see how that works.

I'm curious if carlinkit 5.0 offers any improvements compared to the 3.0 adapter. The CPU is the same but the WiFi module has changed. Realtek 8822BS/Broadcom 4354S (3.0) vs BCM8335 (5.0).

Carlinkit 3.0 Mini

2023.05.13.1107

got it also on my Mini.
Finally they have solved the issue with one-touch finger that was broken on 2022.12 (on my GP 3008)
Still have GPS issue with Maps or Waze that needs to be opened or adaptator needs to be rebooted :(

Can confirm on my Mercedes-AMG GLA35 using Carlinkit 2.0, that 2023.05 performs much better and is more stable compared to 2022.12, which used to encounter constant dropouts and disconnecting from the car.

New bug in latest fw, screen asking to connect to carplay keeps popping up every few minutes despite hitting cancel. Used to be it only popped up once when starting the car.

Just upgraded my v3 to a v5. It's a little bit smaller. Wireless improvements are noticeable, haven't taken it on a long drive yet (just received it). I own a 2020 Tundra, the v3 when upgrading to the latest versions (from version 2022.07.29.1625 to 2022.12.14.1349), my phone would stop connecting - it would still display in my Head Unit, but iPhone wouldn't recognize it as CarPlay. Resetting to defaults, etc.. never fixed it. Always had to rollback to the older version. Even tried before ordering the v5 when everyone mentioned the new firmware, the v3 didn't see anything past 2022.12.14.1349. I figured I'd buy the v5 and give it a shot, seems promising. I'll probably convert my v3 to a travel unit and use it in rental cars that don't support wireless CarPlay, or as a spare if an update borks the v5.

I'm excited for the new wireless standard... I'd have reproducible interruption when on my commute driving through specific areas with higher wireless interference. I am hoping this will help reduce those, but if that doesn't help... Now I can set the wireless channels to something in the higher range, or even 165 @ 20MHz.

My v3 was wireless N, running at 40 MHz max speed 300mbps.

The new v5 is wireless AC, running at 80MHz max speed 867mbps.

Interesting- my 5 arrived too but when I plug it in the car unit don’t detect car play and the dongle just has a red light - I need to try it in another car really to see if it’s a dongle issue or my car (Ford / Sync 3)

Do you see the Wi-Fi "AutoKit" show up after 20-30 seconds? If so, you should be able to connect to that, regardless of what your Head Unit is showing (you could also power it off a standard USB power, not connected to any hard unit), and browse to 192.168.50.2, the v5 has an option under "settings" for "HULink Type" mine by default worked with "Auto" but you have the option to manually choose CarPlay and AndroidAuto... You may want to choose CarPlay and see if that works?

Just powered it up - I do see a wifi network AutoKit_26 but it’s a secured network - do we know the wifi code to connect to this network?

Thank you!

Good to hear! My v5 is running great. Might be placebo, but seems to be much snappier. I still had some cutouts on my commute running on the lower channels (36), I ended up jumping to channel 165, which forced devices to run at 20MHz, and the cutouts went away. I could likely run 80MHz on some of the other upper channels, but seeing as 165 is rarely used by anyone, I think it'll be the most stable.

So far, no regrets bumping from v3 to v5.

Considering that Wireless CarPlay is 10mbps only, a 20 MHz channel should indeed be enough. A 20 MHz channel for sure is less prone to interference than a 80 MHz channel, especially in the higher frequencies.
