What kind of hardware you guys use for the folding ? I always was wondering if I could install a virtual instance and fold a bit, too. Or search for aliens ...

What is the requirement ? Can a virtualized instance of FAH on a Xeon (3.4 GHz) help? How long WU would run ? What is the memory requirement ? FreeBSD ok (Linux I saw) ?

Just doing my first WU, not yet joined any team as I want first see what my system can do ... Take quite some time.
Runnung under Ununtu 12.04 on a ESXi server. Two cores, 1GB RAM assigned.

Ah, and monitoring on Zabbix to see the progress of a WU.

I love playing around :D

if you like tinkering you'll enjoy FAH then!

as long as you have a passkey you'll be getting credit towards the 10 regular work units before you're eligible for bonus (the quick return bonus or QRB that you'll be able to get with your system)

i think you'll like fah :)

you can fold in a VM, but you'll get much better results native.

and you are welcome to join our team at any time ;)

Actually how ? I added 3446 in config file and restarted the Client (and lost my second 500'k WU).
Anything else ?

Update: ok, it just took time; I'm in "3446"; far down the ranks :D

the third WU was a big one ... 25M ... crunching 40 hours ...

chart2.php.png

I feel stupid to bother my Xeon with that ... after more reading the only way to move something solid seems via GPU.

Hope that the new FAH-Core comes soon and allow GPU with Linux. For the time beeing I try to setup a Windows Box to use a AMD (though "only" a 6450).

Its really a bit addictive ... and I cross already four digits
Seven digits or any significant contribution for the 1bn seems far away

Right now I play with
1 Xeon (3.4 GHz, 50% of Cores)
1 i7 (2.9 GHz, iMac 2010)

Build-phase:
1 i7 (2.6 GHz and AMD GPU )

(and I see myself looking into Amazon for a nicer AMD card )

nice Xeon you've got there...

and everything helps -- thanks for contributing!

and yes it's completely addictive!

I hear that you can do GPU and Linux with Ubuntu and the v7 client... check this:

can't vouch for it myself though -- let us know how it works if you decide to try it out...

The AMD 6450 I have don't support OpenCL ...
It get identified and even a WU assigned but stay forever on 0%
Need to find a nicer PCIe 2.0 GPU card for my board (would a PCIe 3.0 card be compatible ?)

right, the "unsupported card" issue...

about PCIe 3.0; I'd think so; I'm running a 660ti that is 3.0 and seems to run perfectly...

My systems are sweeting for the 80kPPD;
I'm sweeting to explain my wife I need a 780

lol. i pulled mine off today while the wife was at work! of course i haven't bought a video card in a couple of years, so it was time (last one was a 460, and several 260s before that)

but right now our team is as good as it's ever been. we just gotta keep it going!
