Hm. It "should" have worked. How exactly did you connect it to the MBP and monitor?

1. Is the USB-to-USB-C adapter working?
2. Was the DisplayLink dongle recognised in the driver software?
3. Are the monitor and DP-to-DP cable working when connected directly to the MBP?
4. Was the monitor connected to the DisplayLink dongle? (I know, I know - just to be safe ;))

1, 3 and 4 — yes

3 I cannot recall

But it may be worth to test it one more time with a dual adapter. Do you think it will be a mostly satisfactory experience if it works wrt to delay, response time, refresh etc

My only experience with DisplayLink is at work - on Windows 10, driving two 1920x1200 monitors, and this config is responsive enough. However, if you're running at e.g. 4K and using scaled resolutions things will be (very?) different. Best to check it out for yourself. If it's not "good enough", the only other option for three externals on macOS on the 13" MBP (AFAIK), is an eGPU.

that I want a Dual DisplayPort to increase screen count?
That depends on how many screens you want to hook up via USB. If it's just one, you don't need a dual-DP version. This is independent of the number of screens hooked up directly to the MBP.

If you're in clamshell mode, you can do 2x DisplayPort and 1x HDMI out. I think max resolution is something like 2x displays at 2560x1440 (displayport) and 1x 1920x1080 (HDMI), but I certainly haven't tried with that many 1440 displays. I know it'll work with 3x 1080p displays, though. (I did 2x 1920x1200 and 1x 1920x1080 at work)

The 2x external monitors support is only if you connect 4K monitors, and keep the internal display running (so technically, that also counts as 3 active monitors).

Hello,

I have a MacBook Pro 13", 2020.

I read this thread and I understood that with:
- 2x DisplayPort -> USB-C
- 1x HDMI -> USB-C

I would be able to connect three monitors Full HD (1920 x 1080).

But I'm having trouble :(

I've attached two pictures of the connections I have (first one 2 DisplayPort, second one 1 HDMI via Satechi)

am I missing something?

Thanks!
