Having same issue on 2022 iPad Pro 11. Using PiP even on homepage makes iPad boiling to point it stops charging and battery drains very fast.

If I run the video app in stagemanager instead, even with added heavy multitasking, there’s no heat or battery issues. So issue seems limited to PiP only. On iPadOS 16.1.1

Just did a battery drain test:

Fullscreen video: 3% in 20 minutes
Same video in PiP: 41% in 20 minutes

Got to be an issue haha

My iPhone 14 Pro overheats using YouTube PiP (iOS 16.1.2). It does not matter what else I'm doing, and even does it when the video is slid off-screen.

I can use PiP from the Apple Podcasts app, from the Safari web browser, from the ESPN app, etc. with NO overheating. I think the issue is with the way YouTube has implemented PiP.

iOS and iPadOS. YouTube and Twitch. PiP overheats.

I no longer use it in fear of destroying the battery or setting the CPU on fire 🔥.

Anyone experiencing this? Anytime I use PiP with YouTube or even twitch, my iPhone 14 Pro Max will heat up excessively. It’s only while using PiP. I can watch videos in the app without it overheating in the slightest. Currently on the 16.1 official release but it has being doing this since earlier versions.
Probably the A Bionic chip can’t handle the load 😞😞

14 PM:

Not having any such issues while using youtube pip mode and doing other stuff simultaneously. (Ambient temperature between 14 to 16 degrees).

Maybe a full reset/wipe may work for you to resolve any such issues.

Yotube/YoutubeTV PiP has been horrendous on both my 14 Pro and 11" M1 iPad Pro. I can kill the battery in an hour. After about 20 minutes both devices are hot to the touch. Started in early November after an update to both of the apps. None of the subsequent updates have resolved the issue. I don't think its an iOS issue. I have no problem with other PiP apps.

I get the exact same thing on my M1 12.9 iPad Pro, using Twitch as well as Youtube. My bet is a problem with iPadOS rather than the apps.

I remebered a few says ago about this trend and wanted to give it a try. So while i was using waze i started a PiP YouTube video and run it twice. So for about 30 minutes. After 15 minutes it was still cold. After 30 minutes i could feel it getting a bit warm near the top left side of the phone. I'm not an expert, but i dont think the issue is with YouTube or with the iPhone 14. I think the issue is in the iOS 16.
My device is iPhone 13 pro with iOS 15

Yup. I'll never understand where the idea that something getting warm is "overheating" came from. Videoplayback is processor intensive, the phone will heat up. It's also doing scaling while in PiP mode which is more work.
There a difference between heating up and so hot its uncomfortable to hold. I can play PoGo on full brightness in the sun for an hour and my device does not get as hot as it does with Youtube TV PiP in under 5 minutes.

I'm doing a non-scientific test right now and recording my phones temperature. Starting off, my phones battery is at 84F. I will report back shortly.

Edit:
After 3 minutes, my phone has lost 4% in battery and the battery temperature has increased to 99.1F. 15 degree increase in 3 minutes in not just "getting warm."

After 5 minutes, my phone has lost 7% in battery and the temperature has increased 101.6 degrees. The phone is sitting on my desk, so body heat is not contributing.

After 7 minutes, my phone has lost 9% and the temperature is 103.7 degrees. For the sake of not wanting to damage the battery, I am stopping the test. But in 7 minutes the battery temp went from 84 to 103.7. That's not just normal use getting warm.

don't tire yourself in vain, you can't explain..
We say there is an overheating problem, they say "the phone is getting hot"

Been having this issue ever since I upgraded to iOS 16 when it first came out. Heats up the phone like crazy while using YT and Twitch in PiP. Never had this issue doing the same in iOS 15. Can’t believe it hasn’t been fixed yet..

I wonder is it an iOS issue or YouTube app issue

Still having issues on 16.3. Both youtube and twitch. I'm pretty sure this is an iOS problem because it's even overheating when I'm on my homescreen with PiP which should be less intensive than having an app open with full screen video + chat.
