Spoke with another ATT rep. This one told me that on Thursday the system was updated with a new in-stock estimate for the iPad Air 2 LTE 128 of 7-14 business days. She was careful to emphasize that this is simply the new inventory information in the system, and could change positively or negatively before then. It seems like nobody at ATT really knows what's going on. I also know that every single Apple Store within a thirty mile radius of me has the 128 LTE models in stock for pick-up (I just checked). Clearly ATT does not have the same inventory. Why that's the case, I have no idea.

If I ordered an hour after pre orders went live and get pushed back another 2 weeks I'm going to just cancel my order and wait for them to come in the store.

The only theory I can think of is that AT&T is intentionally holding these units back for those that ordered through AT&T Next. It sounds crazy, but AT&T def doesn't make nearly as much money off of a tablet compared to the iPhone through Next. It's as though they are upset that we didn't buy it in full from them. It's a crazy theory, but one does have to wonder at times what is going on...There is clearly no shortage of iPad Air's for AT&T.

I'm the guy who ordered a 64GB iPad Air 2 in-store last Wednesday, which shipped the next day. (It arrived a couple hours ago.) I ordered via the installment plan, so the above probably doesn't explain the delays.

(I don't believe AT&T considers the iPad installment plan to be a Next plan, but that's probably just trivia. It's obviously similar to Next.)

Anyway, have you guys thought about ordering again at a store? I believe you can cancel an existing order before it has shipped (or return it, unopened, afterward if the first one does ship), so you might not have anything to lose. Obviously, the no-interest installment plan is a great deal, although I sympathize with the people who've been waiting for weeks. Good luck.

Mine was ordered IN-STORE not online, and I was first told shipping 10/27-10/31, then on 11/01 in the morning that it was backordered and then in the evening received and email stating that it was Not Available anymore and I would be notified "if/when it would ship. So it doesn't matter whether it was online or in-store.

Same here dude. Ordered 10/17 at noon through a company owned retail store. I got an email the next day saying my shipping window was 11/3/14 through 11/7/14 so nothing has changed for me. Today was the first day of my shipping window so I guess we'll see by the end of the week.

I have a feeling is isn't going to ship by the window since I contacted a order specialist at AT&T and they told me "Sorry bro dude, you won't get it until late Nov/early December."

Meanwhile at Apple... plentiful stock of 64GB Space Grey LTE models within a 100 miles of here in Central FL.

Yes, I was at Millenia Mall today and they had several Space Grey 128gb LTE models in stock. Still hoping the iPhone 6 will come in on time, it has a shipping of 11/14-11/25

Got tired of waiting and cancelled preorder. Was able to walk into Apple Store here in St Louis and 15 minutes walk out with a new sg 128gb lte iPad.

For the record that is two preorders cancelled with att, 6+ and air 2, and two in store purchases at Apple.

Florida mall has had 64GB Space Grey's in stock for a while. Just don't have the bread to dish out for one full price. Just gave AT&T my $800 to pay off my iPhone 6 because I thought they would ship my iPad Air 2 accordingly. Thanks AT&T.

Yeah, it was just a crazy theory I had to begin with, didn't think they would really do that as it would be a bad business decision...That is true though about the installment plans, as AT&T doesn't classify it as Next.

I have thought about canceling and re-ordering in store. However, with my luck, I would cancel, and then a day or so later, all those initial pre-orders would ship out and I would be at the back of the line again! At least I have my Surface Pro 3 to keep me company while I wait!

Hey guys. I've been following this post for a couple days after waiting around since Oct 22nd. I'm in the same boat as you all. On the 22nd I went in to the att store to ask about availability on an iPhone 6 and if I could trade in my 5. They said they didn't have the 6 in stock and I could only use my trade in on in store purchases so I decided to wait on that. I also decided to look at the iPad's because I have an original iPad mini Wifi 32gb and while I love it, I have always kinda wished I had a larger screen and LTE access (I travel a lot as a backup singer and couldn't do anything with my wifi only iPad on the road). I noticed they were offering the "next" program on the iPad Air 32 gb. I decided to go ahead and order it. The salesman said it would ship the next day and probably arrive the following day. So he started with the order and said... "Guess what.. The iPad Air 2 just came out and they are offering it for this same price but for twice the storage and all new features. Would you like to go ahead and order that instead of the Air?" He proceeded to let me know that the shipping would be "2-3 weeks" and also noted that the price on the original Air had gone down a bit. I said it was worth it so I went through with the order. Afterwards, I got my email saying shipping 10/27-10/31. So like you, I expected that. Then on the 31st I got that email "back-ordered" and the next day "unavailable and we'll let you know when it becomes available for shipment". I'm halfway wishing I had gone with the original Air as I would have had it a week ago.. I hope the newer features are worth all the extra wait, and I certainly hope that wait is not much longer. :/

People who received the "unavailable for shipment" email: what does your actual order status say on the order status page? I haven't received any emails but my order status has been "back-ordered" ever since ATT missed the estimated 10/27-10/31 window.

Mine just says backordered. No shipping dates listed at all

I just cancelled my order. One of my local ATT stores has the 128 LTE in stock. This marks the second time in the last six weeks I've cancelled an online ATT order. (When the iPhone 6 came out, they completely messed up my delivery window and I ended up just walking into an ATT store on release day and walking out with a new phone a short while later.)

This is getting rediculous! I wish I could just cancel and go to Apple, but at this moment, the installment, or "Next" plan is the way I have to go about it. :(

Just cancelled my order as well and purchased at Apple Store. Lesson learned - will never order from AT&T again

Same situation. Blarg!

Though after looking at the air 2 in store, I'm concerned about the screens. Every display unit distorted like an old laptop when pressed just slightly and they all had the distortion in that spot everyone is talking about. I'm hoping those are just early production models, but it think that's just the way it is. Makes me second guess the purchase.

Sigh... I just got the "Your device is indefinitely delayed; we don't know when we can ship it" message for an AT&T 128gb SG iPad Air 2.

Sigh... I just got the "Your device is indefinitely delayed; we don't know when we can ship it" message for an AT&T 128gb SG iPad Air 2.

My 64GB Air 2 Space Grey is still showing "Preparing to Ship" with dates between 11/3 and 11/7. Is there still hope? I actually did get an email a while back, but it never changed the dates or shipping status. My email was something like this:

Dear XXXXXXX,

Thank you for your recent purchase of order number XXXX-XX-XXXX.

Due to the high demand, your device/accessory is not yet available for shipment.

To check the progress of your order, utilizing the order number above, please visit us at att.com/wirelessorderstatus or call us anytime at 877.782.8870 and enter XXXXXXXXX or the Wireless Number and Shipping Zip Code.

As soon as your order is ready you will receive an e-mail with your shipping and tracking information.

We appreciate your patience.

AT&T

Hopefully this is good news.

I got that same message tonight. This was the first day of my shipping window (so called). We will see if AT&T can come up with a pleasant surprise. I am getting more and more skeptical.

I fully intend to make some noise if they don't have it shipped by Friday. This is really beyond pathetic. Their incompetence continues to show.

If only Sprint had better coverage ...

This is freaking ridiculous. If it wasn't for the AT&T Next program, I would of cancelled my order a long time ago.

I hate this. Every time I get an email I'm thinking "Could this be att saying my iPad has shipped?" And it never is... :/

FYI...Most Best Buys can do the Next Plan

I began reading this forum a couple weeks ago and noticed that people who ordered after me had quicker ship dates. I ordered 128 cellular Space Grey through ATT on the 17th with a Nov 3-7 ship date. I called ATT about this, and the led me on a wild goose chase. In the end, they said ALL ATT Authorized Retailers can do the Next plan on the iPad, which included their stores, Target, Radio Shack, and Best Buy.

I also had read about the trade-in offer at Best Buy and the mover's coupon. My local San Francisco BB was supposed to get some in, but didn't. They called another SF BB and they had 1 128 Silver Cellular unit and I headed over. I traded my iPad 2 for $173 + $50 coupon. I was actually the first person to use Next for an iPad in their store and they didn't even know they could do it until they checked. Slow process as they had to figure out things along the way. But the process went through. The only issue was I could not apply my trade-in or coupon against the price of the iPad as the installment payments are set by ATT. So they gave me a gift card for the $173, which I was able to use for the taxes and the CA recycling fee. As far as the $50 coupon which states it's for trade-in for iPad Air 2, they gave it to me as a $50 credit against anything in the store right then. I couldn't use the mover's coupon though. But I was happy just to get my iPad through the Next plan. All the rest was extra that I wouldn't have gotten through ATT.
