How was the performance of Macbook with Yosemite?
I concur with hwjotek, I use MS Office 2016, MS RDP, Chrome 79, Teamviewer 13 (10.10 is stuck there), iTerm2. All work fine. I did disable all animations with TinkerTool and some terminal commands.

Hi all,

I'm totally stuck with my current 10.10 vs MacBook2,1 experiment and need some help.

I'm running 10.6.8 on the MB2,1.

I downloaded the 10.10.5 Yosemite PKG from the official Apple page. Extracted the "Install Mac OS X Yosemite.app" on an other Catalina machine and tried to create a USB installer key with SFOTT 1.4.5.10.

I got a bootable installer stick and then I'm stuck with the grey apple screen. Interestingly, sometimes the spinner and the progress bar appear, but then a kernel panic occurs that outputs across the bootscreen and then later is shown when restarting in 10.6.8:

I even loaded a 10.10 installer from a "shady" source, but even then the SFOTT key was not working. I noted that the stated OS kernel version is 14F27 for both sources. So I thought that maybe the SFOTT kernel might be incorrect for the YOS install file version.

Any ideas how to create a bootable installer and revive my MacBook2,1? Any ideas and support is appreciated!
If that is your only Mac as it was my case.
I got a roaringcore Lion beta that worked on 32 bit macs and 2006 mac minis.
From there I restored that CCC image to an external drive, then booted Lion.
In Lion I was able to use SFOTT to update the EFI / create the Mavericks installer to work on this mini. After having a working Mavericks and 3 to 4 years of use I tried MacPostFactor to install Yosemite.
You maybe able to use MPF on Lion and skip SFOTT.

Good luck!

Hi Huedrant,
i downloaded yosemite from https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210717
tried to extract yosemite.app but could not. the file i was able to download was InstallMacOSX.dmg.
mounted the file and copied .pkg file, extracted pkg using pkgutil --expand, still cannot locate yosemite.app
if you don't mind can you briefly describe the procedure to extract .app required by sfott from the downloaded .dmg file. Thanks

The cause for the kexts not loading is they need to have a proper digital signature to be loaded in Yosemite and later systems.
You can disable this requirement in Yosemite by launching Terminal and issuing this command:

Code:
sudo nvram boot-args="kext-dev-mode=1"

An administrator password will be needed. Reboot and you should have your acceleration already turned on, if not - reinstall the kexts using the procedure from the OP and only then reboot.

Perhaps a bit late, but I had to upgrade my sister's white Macbook 2,1 and the kexts didn't load for me initially, a quick look into the system logs made me realize it's a signature issue.

Hello hwojtek,

is it possible to upload patched 10.10.5 image, i too have macbook 2,1 but i am unable to generate a patched version.

Hello!

I created the Yosemite USB with clyde gallagher's video tutorial, but when I start MacMini 2.1 with the Option button it doesn't show the USB to install.

I already tried to reset NVRAM (PRAM) with Option+Command+P+R, but it didn't work.

Anyone have an idea to see the USB flash?

Thank you.

Hey guys,
So my graphics seems to be working okay with @hwojtek solution

However, my audio does not work even after installing audio kext from OP.

I hope you guys can help me out. thanks!

Hi garretts228,

I think your post is pretty clear. I like your post. I like the zipped package containing every thing one needs to get Video, Sound and Wifi running again. Many thanks for that.

Lately, I decided to buy a Mac. And since mid Feb 2016 I own a Mac Mini mid 2007 (macmini2,1). A second hand one. While working with Lion, I discovered it's not supported any more and looking for a way to get it running on a newer version of OS X, I stumbled upon SFOTT. I decided to give it a try.
The mini had an 80 GB hard drive, which I saved and laid aside so, when in trouble, I could go back to the original OS X Lion. I build in a 120 GB drive, but I didn't manage to get it working with Yosemite. I attached a 160GB drive to the mac and I managed to get it installed with Yosemite. I also upgraded it to 10.10.5. After that Audio, Video and WiFI didn't work anymore.
Yesterday I joined macrumors. I read so much information on this site and it helped me a lot. But, yesterday, after reading post #369 I screwed up my yosemite install. I think I missed a step somewhere and left me with a mac that wouldn't boot anymore. I tried booting with shift key pressed, with command-s. I booted from the internal disk and tried to repair and undo the steps inputs #369. Finally, I got it back by pressing command-s while booting from the recovery partition.

I had sound (Voodoo), but very low. Wifi does not recognize my SSID. Actually, while scanning, it find nothing and I know there are several SSIDs in the neighborhood. I tried to use your post and give it a try.

I followed your instruction. Sound and Video are working again but WiFi does not find any SSIDs. Could it be it does not work on a macmini2,1? I hardly found any posts on mac mini's. Video is working fine, like in Lion.

Cheers
I have the same issue, WiFi does not work, the networks are not being detected. Were you able to solve this somehow in the meantime perhaps? If yes, can you please help me to do the same? I am really stuck because without WiFi I cannot use the machine for a lot. - Thank you!

The guide is great and it would have helped me a lot, my aging neighbour also who can't invest in a nex device, though after few attempts, it doesn't work as it seem impossible to find a 10.10.0 version anywhere, shame.
It would have really helped. if anyone have that file, please let us know, would be much appreciated. or a clone maybe ? i know I installed Win8 on my 2007 imac that way..
Thanks anyway for all your effort
