For the 'lower cost' one, they can probably get rid of the front display that's only used to project a (creepy) image of your eyes for other people. (Though I wish with the current model it could illuminate your surroundings a bit so you can see where you are going in the dark.)

But yes I want a real USB-C port (wired headphones, ethernet, devices, data transfer to Mac etc. There's already a developer strap with a USB-C port (replaces right strap) that can probably do all of this, but it's not hooked up to do any of it now (and it should be under $100).

Maybe an unpopular opinion:

It doesn’t really need M series hardware in it if Apple isn’t going to ship macOS on it. (This is the issue w/ current iPads - except for super niche workflows/use cases, they’re stupidly overpowered for what you can actually do in iPadOS)

Put A17 or A18 in the next version with R2, move the processing to the battery pack to get even more weight and bulk out of the headset (no fans, etc). Keep the same displays and make the lenses better.
