Is someone know when they refresh the refurb store with new entries? There's not much left in the Canadian Apple Stores with no model I want left...

I don't, but this nifty site is your friend! You will grow to find a pattern and can browse all configurations.
I used this to get my BTO 2019 version in the height of covid when we were all quoted months for delivery of even the stock configurations.

hey guys, I too just placed an order yesterday for an 2020 5k iMac w/ i7, 5700xt before they are all gone. I know this machine very well and sure this will serve me for the next a few years at least while the Apple Silicon models got more support.

I'm open to ram upgrade options, looking to get 2x16gb for now.
I've been using this RAM since I got my 2020 iMac, no problems whatsoever. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07N124XDS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

4 months after I bought my 2020 refurb model and no regrets. Classic iMac, very fast, powerful and all the intel benefits I wanted (Windows)

I didn't wanted to buy the studio but I was a little anxious if I make the good decision or not because I still put a lot of money on the table but in the end I'm very glad with my decision. Even if Apple stop supporting this model next year, at least Windows 10 will be supported until the end of 2025 so I can turn my iMac into a PC-Only if this really happen but I think Apple will support this model for at least 2 more updates after Ventura.

Agree. I needed an update from my 2017 27" with more storage. The 2020 refurb will given me those things at about half the cost of a Studio + display.

Hello, I just saw this site and I have registered because I am a lifelong Mac user, and in this thread I have found questions and answers that I am asking myself at the moment, because my 2011 27" iMac is in the UVI and it's badly arranged, I'm devastated, and seeing Apple's offer with the new 24" color iMacs, and the "monitorless" MacStudio, my desolation reaches despair, thoughts attack me of accepting the PC platform. In Apple's refurbished there is an iMac from August 2020 with 27" i7 8Gb RAM and 512 SSD storage at a good price, but why? If in 3, 4 or 5 years it will no longer be possible to update the OS or Security, Will third-party applications work? I don't know, I feel helpless... and PC is knocking on doors because with those Apple prices it is worth thinking about and we will unmask the myth of solidity and consistency of Mac, the only thing that shows is a lot of flocklore and Excuse my uneasiness, and as a maca addict I will continue waiting for that light that gives me back hope, to see if at his party on October 12 he announces the new iMac 27 "with M1 or M2, with 32 Gb and SSD 512 and a Spectacular color, or black, it doesn't matter... it's a wishful dream! will it be true?

I'm running on a 2014 iMac 27 on Big Sur and it runs fine. I got it cheap on Craigslist and will use it until I find something better that's cheap on Craigslist and then sell this one. I don't know how long Apple will support older hardware but you don't necessarily have to run the latest hardware. This is partly why used stuff is discounted so heavily. I played around with the 2020 iMac 27 at Costco today and it's a nice system.

Gracias.

How much longer do you guys think Apple is going to support the 2020 27” iMac? I’m guessing it will be one of the last models dropped aside from the 2019 Mac Pro. I’m really hoping it gets 2 more OS upgrades, but I’m not holding my breath because Apple seems to be cutting off Intel aggressively like they did to PPC.

I am guessing 2025.. it will still be a great linux or windows machine if we replace it with an newer Mac.

Apple will generally support a Mac until the hardware is vintage - 5 years after it was discontinued. So on average (and there are caveats, not to mention the fact it's intel) but I'd say 2026 (5 years after it was discontinued in 2021). Plus two years of security updates.

The intel Mac mini has only just been discontinued so I think it backs the case for macOS to last that long for Intel machines - especially since the Mac Pro is now the final Apple Intel product that's current.

I'd say it's guaranteed the 2020 iMac will have another year for major macOS release, but I'm not sure for the fall 2024. Last year Apple removed support for a lot of machines, including 2017 ones.

Anuwau, there's so little changes year after year on macOS that I can leave with a dead line of 2026 inclusions security updates. I think this computer will have a shorter life span due to its intel based CPU, but 6 years would be the minimum acceptable for me. My old late 2015 27' iMac still works well for everyday tasks 8 years later.

Thanks, '25 or '26 with OS security updates until '28 would be ideal for me.
Based on other iMacs Security Updates on Monterey, Big Sur & Catalina.

The 2020 iMac 14nm will receive

- Software Updates until 2027
- Security Updates until 2029

If you decide to replace after the final Security Update then you would be buying into a sub-1nm iMac that probably has more raw performance than an M2 Ultra 5nm while consuming less than 100W.

That would be awesome, hopefully you're right. My main concern with this timeline is Apple's aggressive cutting off of Intel Macs like what was done with PPC.

You know that 3rd party RAM is way cheaper than Apple RAM, right? I upgraded my 8GB 2020 iMac to 64GB of Crucial RAM for $309.

Really should do some research before coming off as wildly uninformed.

2020 models have SSD soldered in place so no upgrades possible, even if you are cool with opening it up. You’ll have to use an external SSD. I use a SanDisk 2TB external USB-C drive and get about 500MBytes/second write and 600 MBytes/second read.

If you need faster speeds, then you’ll need to use a thunderbolt case, which will cost a bit more as you’ll have to get an enclosure then get an nVME drive.

Not entirely true...the SSD on the higher capacity configurations utilize a replaceable SSD component.
