Just got home with my 12 Pro from Best Buy, and I already notice this black spot on the stainless steel. I’ve been super careful with it and put it in a spigen case in the car. It’s been in and out of my pocket a few times. That’s it. I even used a microfiber cloth to try and buff it out with no luck. What gives? Has anyone else had this spot appear?

If it’s too bothersome for you, I would take it back for an exchange. Or, if it doesn’t affect the operation of the phone, keep it.

Factory - no doubt. Within specs I'm assuming. Think of it this way ... Each of our phones are individually created. There may be slight color variations and anomalies that in no way affect the performance of the device.

Like a pair of bluejeans.

That looks like the exact dot in a thread from a guy who kept getting his phone scratched by Apple’s machine to install screen protectors. I think the 3rd phone he got had a black dot on the back glass.

Definitely looks like a manufacturing defect. If you’re bothered, they would have to exchange it. Like you said though, you may end up with a worse defect. You never know.

Also a point to consider, any tiny mark can probably subtract $100 of resale value, so it can be a factor as well.

Didn’t you examine it before you left BB?

Ah, no that should not be the expectation.
