Yes! That best describes it, cheap.

I found this example on reddit. You can clearmy see a difference in patina with previous generations in comparison to the ones of today. Could it be the camera used to take the pic who knows, but this definitely looks different

And if I recall, Apple used to include a care card on how to properly treat the leather case since it was real leather. I’m not saying the new cases today aren’t leather, but the sure don’t age as well as previous cases.

I just received a brown (caramel) Jisoncase. Very pleased with it. Nice smell of leather right out of the box. Slim profile - very similar to the Apple leather cases. I still switch back to my midnight blue from time to time, but have been using the Jison on a daily basis.

Took matters into my hands and did a little staining myself since I wasn’t happy on how it was turning out with natural patina

Man that looks good! How did you go about doing it?
Keep in my mind my case already had a bit of patina, but I sped up the process by using some nail polish remover and then applying some coconut oil to add the darkness along with a bit of conditioner. No sand paper was used the nail polish remover was more than enough. I used a micro fiber to work in the the nail polish remover along with the oil and conditioner

On my 3rd week with the saddle brown. Got impatient with the look and feel at 2 weeks so I hit it with some 400 grit sand paper and then some leather conditioner.

At first I thought I made a big mistake as it got really tacky feeling and the color was darker and blotchy.

After a week it has evened out a bit and feels a lot better.

Looks good to me. I did the same, although my method was, wipe the case down with a purell alcohol hand wipe, dry for 30 minutes then apply a thin coat of Smith’s leather balm. Let it sit for 5 minutes then used the case for a day. Next day used 400 grit sandpaper as well then wiped it down with another purell wipe. Let dry for 5 minutes and applied another layer of Smith’s leather balm and used it ever since which was about 2 weeks ago. Just yesterday I left the case out in direct sunlight for a solid 5 hours and then applied a coat of Smith’s leather balm. Case has been used since 12/14/19. I’m starting to get quite a few compliments on my case at work lately.
