There were complaints with the 2020 model in SSD performance too. Some people were buying after-market NVMe SSDs to make the system drive and using the one that came with it for slower archive storage.

I have just tested the 512 GB M.2 NVMe SSD with Crystal Disk Mark 8.0.4. The results of the LG Gram 17 (17z90p) are 3393 MB/s read and 2975 MB/s write.

Just for the sake of comparison, the 256 GB SATA SSD of my LG Gram 14 (14z980) obtained 552 MB/s (read) and 345 MB/s (write).

This is a very significant difference. I think the LG Gram 17 had some great results in the SSD test. The 8 TB SSD in the new MacBook Pros has up to 7.4 GB/s read speeds, according to Apple, but the smaller SSDs will probably be slower.

I think that those are in the ballpark of what I saw with the older Gram models. 500 MB/s is in the range of the old SATA 3 2.5 inch SSDs and I still have several of those, either in my desktops or in enclosures. Big step up in speed but it doesn't make that much of a difference unless you're moving large files around.

The faster single-core performance makes things snappier though having more RAM can make things feel faster too, even with a slower CPU. It generally doesn't make a difference in getting more work done though. I have 128 GB of RAM in my desktop and leave it running all the time so anything I need to read from the disk is cached.

It's a PC. Between my current Macs and PCs, I have 256 GB RAM.

OP: Have a few questions for you since you have both the 14 and 17. I've seen the 17 demo in store but not the 14.

1) Is the 17 noticeably sharper than the 14 with the higher PPI count and slightly higher res? You mention you can see pixels on the 14 easily. This is what worried me.

2) How much worse is the keyboard and trackpad on the 14 compared to the 17? I quite loved the keyboard and trackpad on the 17.

3) Have you had any issues not being able to get either screen bright enough in certain environments? I do like the 17 being slightly brighter but the low 300 nit count on the 14 worries me.

4) For commuting with, which would you prefer?

Does anyone know if that battery fits into the 2022 model? The capacity is the same.

Sadly, no. It is a grey market product and I have no option to service it under warranty.

Update on the battery issue. I ordered the item linked in post 37 and I found out that the 2020-2022 Lg Gram 17''s share the same battery pack.

The item sold on Amazon is a strange one though. They advertise it as 80 Wh, battery report says it's 72 Wh, but full charge capacity only 67 Wh.

Despite those not very good numbers I have excellent battery life, with screen at 50% doing office stuff (browsing + ms word + outlook + adobe acrobat + whatsapp) I get 8+ hours of usable battery life.
