Curious why. I only seem to come across people with these issues on this forum more than anywhere else. I know of next to nobody with as many Windows issues as people on these forums especially when they have zero issues with Mac.

I'm also pretty skeptical of these reports

I've had basically zero issues with anything in Windows 11 (or 10 for that matter)

It feels like very outdated FUD to me

Over here
I mean, I'm not saying you can't have issues or there are none. But, I have a fairly equal just different set of issues with Mac and Windows.

I spent so much time fixing, updating and troubleshooting Windows.
Back in the day, I'd agree with out, but windows 7, 10, and 11 (we won't talk about the abomination known as windows 8) that I think Windows just works. Sure once in a blue moon something weird happens, but guess what, once in a blue moon something weird happens on my MBP ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Edge drove me crazy at times
What drove you crazy? Was it pre-Chromium Edge, because Edge works just as well as Chrome.

The iMac "just works" and enables me to things done without being bothered by notifications, updates, changes, problems and Microsoft generally.
That statement doesn't make too much sense, because macOS is pretty naggy with notifications especially for OS updates. All in all, both operating systems, are complex, and when updates come, they can cause headaches, doesn't matter if we're talking macOS or Windows.

I'm not knocking your switching to the Mac, they're great computers, but I think there's a measure of intellectual dishonesty trying to convey how bad windows is, when in fact its not bad at all.

Not sure what country you are in? But here in the UK we have a bespoke builder called PC Specialist and I find they are often good value and the aftercare is very good. Feel confident in sending the computer back for a quick and reliable fix. Aftercare for PCs can be very sketchy. The bigger retailers can lack good customer service. If you can get a bespoke builder where you are might be worth considering.

Downsides of my current configuration: (i) it is noisy; (ii) it takes a lot of space; and (iii) the webcam is an afterthought
only way to get a desktop that doesn't take up a lot of physical space is to get an all in one device (where the computer is built in the monitor) or get a laptop. for noise, you can change the CPU fan or power supply.

I think both on the Mac and PC side there are options outside of AIO

The Mac mini is at the peak of minimalism imo. Its hard to get anything even less intrusive then this

On the PC side, you can get something like this. Personally, its one of my favorite ITX cases Fractal Design Ridge

There's also the various mini PCs/Nucs available on Amazon - similar to the Mac Mini form factor, though I will say with the M series processor, the Mini will probably out perform most of those mini PCs found on amazon

I also have Windows 11 Pro for Workstations and barely do anything for it, it runs reliably and fast on Intel Xeon W3245 machine with W6800X MPX module. Ja ja, I know not an Apple Silicon Mac so I’m a traitor. ;)

I suspect hardware plays a big part. The 2019 Mac Pro desktop is a very solidly engineered machine with quality components which no doubt helps OS stability.

For noise some laptops can be pretty noisy too - particularly the powerful ones. The desktops just need careful selection of case and cooling components. Big slow case fans are the go instead of screaming 6000rpm smaller ones.

macOS also nags me frequently on updates which I won’t do on that machine because 14.5 beta will break the 5,1.
