Personal Space- Is there any way to lock certain apps?

Ok- I know that this probably means I do have a personal space issue but does it bug anyone else when people just start clicking into your apps when they are "playing"with your Ipad?

Its always bothered me that people would randomly flip through my playlists but my reading material on my kindle was pretty safe-- people didn't go sifting through that. One of the reasons I got the kindle was for a bit of anonymity. There just something about other people judging you on what you are reading-- whether its a good urban fiction or just a plain 'ole Harlequin Romance- or sometimes a bit more on the daring side *shrug*. Now I'm faced with the unexpected dilemma of people just dying to open the ibooks or kindle app and voila -- my entire psyche there for examination. Anyone have any ideas? Can I password certain apps? Turn off the cover content in the books or have different sections of the library?

Yeah, we know.... at some point, you don't want to give it to anyone, you have to start just doing demos. Unfortunately. It would be nice to be able to login as 'guest' and show them an empty one.

Wait for the jailbreak. I use madvlock on my iPhone to password protect my SMS app. I'm sure it'll work on the iPad.

I would think that your next best bet is the folder feature in OS 4.0, throw apps that you don't want people looking at in a folder and then throw that folder on one of the last pages and just hope that they don't open it. Granted this could possibly be an inconvenience for you.

Multiple user accounts would really great because I can imagine a lot of families share one iPad. Also it would in general increase security if you log in to a user account with only a few apps and log in to an account with finance and banking apps only if necessary.


Btw: is there any way to get apples keychain items onto the ipad?

Multiple-user accounts may sound great in theory, but what happens when dad wants to use MLB At Bat but his son wants to watch netflix?

iPad, as the name aptly conveys, is meant for I and I only.

Next time OP tell them to look but not touch. Problem solved.

I just saw that in : settings generals restrictions you can block certain apps. I don't know if that helps because I haven't tried it yet.

This is a good point. Unlike the iPhone/iPod Touch, the iPad lends itself to being less of a personal device and more of a sharing device. Most people won't ask you "Hey can I play with your phone?" but that kind of question to an iPad owner likely comes in higher frequency.

I look forward to Folders and I hope they offer password protected ones.

Of course not. Apple didn't think far enough ahead when designing the large iPod to believe more than one person might like to share one. They are also in the business to make money and gave you as much incentive to spend more money after initial purchase as possible.

I agree it would be a great feature to have a passcode lock for certain apps.
I'm in the uk so not many people have the ipad yet and as a result every one that comes into the studio wants to have a look which im cool with but the only problem is i use the numbers app for work invoices which I don't want to be viewable to people having a look at it and also the pages app might have sensitive work on.

I think this needs to be addressed if apple want business users to adopt the iPad.

It might be nice to have 'users' on the iPad, but I don't know if this version of OS X will ever get there. It's supposed to be a personal device, and it's a slippery slope when you start adding 'laptop' features.

I can see that. No offense taken. Every reply of yours just seems like a critique of mine. No offense intended. It's just that most of the compaints here don't seem to realize the iPad is an Apple product. A company tuned to make money. You think a little bit more about each complaint and that same truth keeps cropping up. Sorry if the truth seems redundant. It doesn't appear to be that obvious in this forum though.

That is for a few of the built in apps like App Store and Youtube and to block purchases.

I use that for videos. I have a bunch of porno on my iPad. I set all those types of videos as "movies" and everything else as "tv shows.". I can lock the "movies" under restrictions/movies/don't allow any. There's a separate restriction setting for tv shows, which I don't lock. Works great.

Letting the computer get away from the desk and into the living room is the source of "user accounts" complaints. That 10 hour battery doesn't help. It's freshness also contributes, as owners want to show their's off and others are curious about it. I'll bet that Apple and Google/Android adds seperate user logins to tablet devices eventually. They are more likely to be shared than a netbook or desktop simply because they are more portable.
