Just wanted to start a thread for pictures taken with the iPhone X. Post ‘em up!

Here's a photo from a car shot this weekend, this one has such nice, rich colors, and really pops against the background (using the stock camera app). No color edits, just a resize using automator:

Nice photos. Amidst all the online turmoil surrounding the pros and cons of the iPhone X, it's good to be reminded that there's a camera onboard.

They look great on my 2013 rMBP, so I imagine they look even better on even newer displays.

The image quality and ease of focus and lighting we take for granted these days was science fiction not long ago. And that's just still images. Commercial release movies of this quality being shot on pocketable devices is even more amazing. It's amusing to think about how they joked that a camcorder in Back to the Future was like science fiction to an earlier era.

The artificial bokeh looks bad. They are on to something with it for making photos look more professional, but they aren't quite there yet. Notice how the edges of the guy sitting are blurry. It almost looks like the effect they used to use in movies for simulating a dream sequence.

Other than that, the photos look good.

Hahaha, it was R E D ! It had a little shade on it, but the color in person was amazing, don't know if you can see all the detail work in the passenger area, just fantastic.

Here's another one - same show - great color, it's an '84 CJ:

Does zooming increase noise in cameras? I’ve always noticed mine don’t look very good at all, especially when zooming.

This one zoomed at 10x. See how blurry it is?

Funny; I didn’t immediately notice how bad the edge of the glasses was. I have another shot of him straight on that looks much better.

Yes, digital zoom on any camera will look grainy once you reach certain constraints. 4x zoom is usually the most you’ll be able to get away with on the X, and that’s really only 2x zoom because of the telephoto lens.

Yes. I virtually never digital zoom. I would suggest the same unless maybe you see Elvis in a UFO.

The bokeh effect definitely needs some work. The front bokeh is almost unusable and I've never taken an acceptable selfie in portrait mode. Some of the purple flowers here are blurred while others are fine.

DRIVEN - Native camera app portrait mode + Focos Pro for depth map editing and VSCO for grain and BW toning

DOG - Native camera app portrait mode, Focos for depthmap edit and VSCO for post

FRIENDS - Native camera app portrait mode, straight out of camera

MOTORCYCLE - Native camera app portrait mode, straight out of camera





Pretty powerful tool we've got in our pockets these days. Focos allows me to simulate more organic bokeh from certain vintage lenses that I typically shoot with when I have my real stuff with me, real game changer in my opinion.

Things aren't perfect, but most of the time it allows me to get a compelling shot that 99% will not fault for a small bit of depth inconsistency, without having my camera on me. One thing to note is the system will likely never be amazing at certain types of shots, and as the photographer you learn your tool's limitations. Using it for flower macro with branches and leaves jutting everywhere against a complex background is going to outsmart it every time, but you'd likely get a bokeh-filled shot on your own without portrait mode in this case. Just shoot with the 2x lens as tight as you can or very close with the wide - the lenses both will create great natural bokeh for small subjects.
