Seems to be a big issue. Please share here the write speed to external SSDs you get connected to your iPad Pro 2021.
On a Samsung T7 USB 3.2 SSD I got only 44 MBps copying a 5 GB file to the HFS+ formatted SSD using the original USB 3.2 and a TB3/USB4 cable.

Ouch - that is REALLY slow. I can't remember where I saw it, but one of th early online reviews had much faster speeds than that (but IIRC it was not a T7).

Need more info to get a common baseline - are you copying individual large files or multitudes of small files? How are you doing the copy?

I copied a 3.29GB file from my 2021 12.9 to an exFAT Samsung T5 SSD connected via USB-C cable using the FileBrowser Pro app. The copy took 18 secs. - about 183 MBps.

Have you tried a drive with exFAT?
My Intel USB3 Mac copied the file in 11.6 seconds. Formatted to exFAT I tried again on my iPad and copied the file 01:13 min, about 70 MBps. Still too slow I believe but much faster than HFS+.

Only APFS gave me approximate 400 MB/s transfer to the iPP 2021 and 300 MB/s to the T7.

I’m using ExFat drives, I don’t have a MAC so I need to copy files from iPad Pro 11 (m1). I find using Files is near on impossible getting my MOV files over from the iPad to my Sandisk Extreme 510 through a USB C Hub. If I use FileBrowser I don’t have issues.

Also use my USB C SD Card reader files transferred to the SD card from the iPad take half the time using FileBrowser.

im hoping there’s issues with the Apple Files app and will be fixed ?

About 500MB/s between SanDisk 1TB Extreme Portable SSD Gen 2 (4.3GB file in 9 seconds). Formatted to exFAT.

I now have a Samsung T7…… Just bought an M1 IMac Mini. My iPad M1 is about half the write/read speed of the Mac. Very disappointed because it makes my on the road work flow for video editing very slow compared to my old windows laptop. Transferring the files anyway. Probably should have bought an M1
Laptop instead of the iPad ??
I wonder if iPad OS 15 will resolve this ? Anyone tried it ?

And M1 Macs are also bit slower than Intel counterparts when it comes to USB-C/A speeds.
