Probably Steam, being the mess it is, it's launching the Intel version. You can launch the game in Finder directly and it will be running natively.
No, still Intel version launching it manually. Already tried it.
I suspect some setting/cache being responsible for that. I think the original version, when it came, out was Intel only and that's saved somewhere. A few hours later the first patch came out. I'll try to remove the game completely including all involved files and install from scratch whenever I find the time for it. I'm not alone though, found some Reddit and Steam posts complaining about it a while ago.

Not that something is wrong with the Intel version. The game isn't demanding and it worked absolutely fine for me when I played through it on my M1 Max.
