iPhone 6(S)/Plus RIP - iPhone 6s died

Happened to be near an Apple store and noticed the battery depleting very quickly. They took a look and gave the phone the thumbs up. They couldn’t find anything wrong. So we went for lunch and shortly after noticed the battery charge was at 1%!
Apple had another look and couldn’t understand why. Except to say it was just one of things. Sometimes a 4 year old phone goes on for what seems forever and sometimes they snuff it. I was what you might call a low level user. Compared to others i know, I hardly used the phone. I am a bit disappointed really but they have me in their ecosystem, so I took the plunge on a new iPhone 11 (non-pro). I am not sure about the physical size but I am hoping the bigger battery will compensate for that.
Anyone else experienced something similar?

How old was the battery? I’ll bet all the phone needed was a new battery if more than two years old... If it has a battery less than or around a year old it could be an IC problem..

Similar situation, mine was an iPhone 8. It just died on me and would not turn back on no matter what I tried. Went to the local AT&T store and they had a couple 11's (non pro) in stock. So I got one. I have been very happy with it. I liked the size and feel of the 8 and was not sure about this bigger phone, but I have grown to really like my 11. I get crazy battery life. I can go 2 and a half days easily on this thing with a full charge, might be able to go 3 but I keep watching YouTube videos on it because the screen is so nice lol. I am not a power user, but I do use mine quite a bit, phone calls, emails, texting, pictures and I have even used the VPN on it back to my office and used Remote Desktop to check on something, and YouTube is great. In the mornings while walking my dog before work, I will use the XM app and listen to some music. This is by far the best iPhone I have owned. I put the Otter Box Commuter Series case on it, to me it really did not add a whole lot of bulk to the phone, and I can grip it much easier. I was in New York with it last week and I had excellent signal and battery life throughout my whole trip. I hope you enjoy your new phone. I am very happy with mine.

its good to hear about your new iPhone 11. I am the same in being not sure about getting used to the bigger size. I hope it is not a pain to carry around in my pocket. It hasn't started well though. It won't recognise my last iCloud backup and is also insisting I set it up in French! I'll have another go.

The battery was replaced about 18 months ago after a recall from Apple. It never did seem right but worked ok. I think Apple were saying that it must be a hardware issue and being so old it wouldn't be worth repairing. Of course they didn't actually say those words.

That really does just sound like a bad battery. Buy a replacement, install it yourself (it’s easy) and get yourself some money for it at least.

Interested why you say that. Apple ran their diagnostics and said the battery was absolutely fine.

My old 6 Plus that I sold to a friend over a year ago is still soldiering on. I was always watching YouTube and Netflix on that phone since it was new. Sounds like your phone just decided it was time to let go...

Mine wasn't a plus. I had the battery replaced 18 months ago on an Apple recall programme, so cost nothing.
Apple said yesterday that the battery was good.

Like I said in my other post, my 8 died, and it was out of the blue when it happened. I had zero issues with my 8, it was a great phone and I planned on using it for a lot longer. After I got my 11 I read an article about logic boards on some iPhone 8's that could be bad and prevent the phone from turning back on.

I have yet to enter in the serial number because I have been busy traveling and I guess at this point it really doesn't matter to me since I am enjoying my 11 and plan on keeping it.

For me (and I understand everyone is different) it has not been a pain to carry around in my pocket like I thought it would, for years I have always used my left front pocket for my iPhone, and this 11 with the case, fits in my pocket just fine. I was all over NYC last week with it in my front pocket and had no issues.

Strange about the iCloud backup, now that I think about it, I think my iCloud backup when restoring to my 11 was off by about a day, which for me was not that big of a deal as my iPad has a copy of all my iMessages and there were no pictures missing. Weird about being in French, maybe a factory reset will help.

Things break especially after 3-4 years. And it’s a mobile device. I rarely hear iPad dying all of the sudden after 3/4 years. Cause iPads are not dropped as much as phones.

think how many times a phone no matter how careful someone is drops througout the course of 3-4 years. Or even when it’s not dropped. It’s in/out of bags/pockets/jeAns.

iPhone 11 battery life will not disappoint you. It's a huge difference.

The battery life of the non-plus 6s was never really good to begin with. When i got the phone and i had it for a couple months, it had like 5 hours of screen-on time. It barely got me through the day, often returning from work after a 11 - 12 hour day (including the commute) and i often had less than 20%, sometimes it was below 10%. As soon as i got home, i had to charge it. And i barely used it at work, but also couldn't charge there. I always had 100% in the morning when i left for work. And after 3 years with the phone the battery was completely flat, it had 1 hour on-screen time left, not kidding. Watching YouTube over Wi-Fi with 50% brightness and the battery would drop from 100% to 10% in 1 hour. So i replaced the 6s with the 8 Plus and the battery life is amazing on this phone, but not as good as the Xr or iPhone 11 or Pro.

Those phone batteries just don't really have a long life-span. You need to get a battery replacement atleast every 2 years, if not every year. As soon as i notice a significant battery life decrease with the 8 Plus over time, i will go ahead and have the battery replaced at an Apple Store.

They stood in front of me and said that it was perfectly normal to have a fully charged 6s at 7:30 in the morning and for the battery to have depleted to 1% by 2pm whilst the phone is doing absolutely nothing but just sitting in my pocket. I am absolutely flabbergasted!

i had battery on my 6S replaced and it lasted a year before it started acting up.
if it wasn't water damaged, or you didn't damage the power circuits with some cheap knockoff power supplies, there really isn't anything there that can kill it.

My 6S right now has a dying battery and a broken screen, gonna replace both on sunday to squeeze another year from it.

My 6s had been reset to factory settings on my first visit to the Apple store. So the only apps on the phone are the standard Apple apps.
My problem is that I bought a new iPhone 11 and I hate to say it but it’s great. (For now anyway). Anyway I hate Apple at the moment but I am locked in with their damn good watch.

The people at the Apple store are glorified retail employees, not technicians and as you later said they also thought a 6S dying by 2pm whilst doing nothing was normal which is absurd.

i can’t imagine their diagnostic software which relies on the sensors from the phone is that reliable. Many repair shops will have specialist equipment that you plug the battery in directly to get a real reading.

Unfortunately Apple stores have a history of horribly misdiagnosing things. Have a read about this story, it’s hilarious.

I to have the same problem with my 6S. Problem started when I did the last OS update except that it would go from 100% at bedtime and drop to the low 80's by morning with nothing running in the background. Had a diagnostic check with Apple over the phone at the first of the month. They said the battery was good (it was replaced under the recall deal awhile back), but they couldn't run the second test for some reason. This morning I left turn phone on at 58%, screen went black, phone turned off. Had a hard time getting it to turn on, and when I came on it showed 2%. Turned it off, waited a while came on at 28%. It did this several more times.
While killing time till an apppointment at the Apple store I ran to Best Buy, they came to the same point, good battery, couldn't get to second test. Funny thing is wife

No. They said the battery was fine. Strangely, even though their genius (really - genius - I very much doubt it) they said they would change the battery. Why? To pacify me?
I think someone here described Apple employees as glorified retail staff. After this experience I would describe them as robotic androids. They are just down right weird!

I realise this might be the wrong forum to ask this question, but has anyone here ever tried to untangle themselves from the Apple eco-system? i.e. change from iPhone to Android, and MacOS to Windows?
Please don't admonish me for mentioning Windows, I have use it all my long working life. It seems to run most of the world, and to be honest my last experience of Microsoft (Windows 7) wasn't that bad at all.
