I run various lnux Virtual Machines on my macbook for different purposes. Sometimes I write scripts that work on both MacOS and Linux. Its not essential and easy to get around (testing uname) but its pretty neat to write scripts that just work without conditional code for each OS. On my linux boxes I keep a few key soft links in / (e.g. to folders shared with my mac) so I can use them without thinking (programming has to be about habits to minimise work). So if I keep a small number of soft links on the mac in / will it cause any issues ? Running Sierra at the moment but shortly to move to High Sierra - I bet apfs will upset that apple cart but its easily fixed (I only want three or four links).

If not in / where in the fs is a good place (independent of user but can make them with root of course) ?

Where should I post this question ?
