I always thought it was a tribute to Alan Turing, or a reference to Adam and Eve or Newton. Apparently it's not that deep.

There was a vid with Steve Jobs driving around & was at the apple orchard where he came up with the idea to call it Apple... i think it was in Oregon (?)
& he was talking about the logo designs & all his plans & drawings for products & stuff.

might be online somewhere, it was pretty cool, as i remember
(but i am a big nerd for stuff like that haha)

I choose to believe its "just an Apple logo, with no previous origins". Everything seems to stem from some sort of origin nowdays, but why does there need to be one?

They just needed it to look obviously like an apple and not a different fruit if I recall correctly?
Yeah... an unbitten Apple looks (kinda) like a cherry

(plus they had the old Isaac Newton image they used first)

Wasn't it to differentiate the logo from Apple Records? Whom they had to make, then later broke, a deal with regarding keeping out of Music...

No,

Apple Records sued for copyright for using the name (& maybe the logo too, I dunno,)
& Apple Computer paid them $80,000 in 1981,
& Apple Computer had to stay out of the music business,
the around 2012, Apple Computer bought the Apple Records logo & they trademarked stuff for Apple Music & games & software in Europe.

Wasn't the Sosumi sound a reference to the ongoing legal dispute between the two?

(Also, see my sig for how the Mac name came about..) :)
