"... all user data will be stored by U.S.-based Oracle, and the company will be able to review TikTok's current source code and that of any subsequent updates."

As an App Dev, I do NOT think that's the Best Structure !

Specifically, IMO, Upload Source Code should be transferred (from TikTok Global) to Oracle, who is then responsible for Uploading it to App Store Connect !

When it completes processing on Apple's end, TikTok Global can hit "submit".

This structure makes Oracle a Man in the Middle; they can, if they so chose, Review the Code BEFORE Uploading it, & thus BEFORE it makes it to the General Public !

In fact, if I was writing it (i.e., the Deal), I would make it Mandatory that Oracle MUST Review (& Test) the Code for 24 hours BEFORE Uploading it to App Store Connect !

Trump is wise NOT to trust the Chinese.

If there is a Loophole in the Deal, they will most-certainly exploit it !

Whew- I was afraid I wouldn't be able to make my little dance videos for utter strangers

I don't use nor have I installed this app, however.....
You do know Apple, and all the other BIG players would kill to have an app as popular as TikTok don't you?

This is about a president whose legacy is an unfinished wall against Mexico, two hundred thousand dead citizens, and hurt feelings after being deceived by the Tiktok fan base at a rally in Tulsa. He's doing all he can to throw dust in the air to confuse the general public about his dirty deeds, in a desperate hope to retain the power come November.

The US Gov't should force all Chinese owned companies to divest their interests in order to sell into the US market. I mean, if we're going to be a bully let's at least go all the way.

I'd love to know how TikTok is going to generate 25k jobs in the US. Oracle already has 135k employees (~30% of which are not in the US), that can manage the technical side. Walmart also makes no sense.

Basically a fake deal to let the POTUS say he got something done. Yawn.
Why does the POTUS has a final say on whether a merge, acquisition or sale can take place?
I kinda may understand the ‘national security’ angle for spotting the issue but then the “yes Oracle and Walmart, you may buy or chip-in in TikTok Global”, like, none of the other government arms are involved? No chamber of commerce, all the anti-trust monopoly dudes and dudesses that have been all over the news last months? No CIA, FBI, NSA for the spying/security part?
I’m no US citizen, I’m no Pro nor Anti Trump either, just a very curious guy on this specific piece of event over a random social media app.

EDIT: it sounds as if I’m minimizing the power of social media, but honestly, thinking about it... in the future we might be governed by the most famous “influencers”, celebrities and PewDiePies of the world. Anyone has the right to run for a government position and these ones actually have a key advantage if they are taken the least bit seriously: they can move, sway and twirl followers at the speed of a button tap, votes included.

Ditto! For comparison, Snapchat has 3,069 employees for an app that supports 244 million monthly active users (with 10B daily video views) vs TikTok with 500 million monthly active users — only 60 million of which (~12%) are in the US. (Ref: 99Firms). TikTok requiring 25,000 employees in the US would suggest a staggering level of inefficiency.

All those extra jobs are for people to harvest every little thing out of the data Oracle will now be harvesting.

Creates a dangerous precedent for the Executive Branch. Whenever you give government new powers, it does not give them back.

everyone who is happy about this, will start cursing the next president of the opposite party when he/she does the same or worst.

The wall is 350 miles built. Trump is your president, and he will remain so.

My president? The closest would be Ursula von der Leyen (European Commission), Charles Michel (European Council), or David Sassoli (European Parliament), but in reality my country doesn't even have a president…
Very well, then in your specific case you should refer to him as a god.

Thanks for confirming why you got the facts and general sentiment wrong — you don’t live in this country! You see our country from the lense of the fake media.

Rasmussen - who got it right in 2016 - polls trump at 53% approval, higher than Obama in the same period. https://www.rasmussenreports.com/pu...p_administration/prez_track_sep18?fullbrowser

350 miles? Where are you getting that number from?

The CBP has it at approximately 321* miles (*mileage and material totals are approximate and rounded as construction activities are ongoing)

https://www.cbp.gov/border-security/along-us-borders/border-wall-system

That number was "Last modified: September 14, 2020"

And most of it is replacement for "dilapidated or outdated designs," not a new wall.

As of late-June, 216 miles of new primary and secondary border wall have been built since January 2017.
Of that, most is in place of what CBP calls dilapidated or outdated designs. An additional 339 miles is under construction, and 183 miles in pre-construction. In construction, 311 thousand tons of steel have been used and 458 thousand cubic yards of concrete have been used.

I guess I rounded it. 321 isn’t far off from 350. That’s 1-2 weeks worth of work away.

Funny how the wall, which isn’t finished (321/500+), already has lowered border apprehensions for 8+ months in a row -https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/national-media-release/january-enforcement-actions-down-eighth-straight-month
