I currently have a 16" MBP M1 Pro 16/512 and a 12.9" iPad Pro M1 but I keep grabbing my 2020 16/512 MBA to work on.

There's just something about this little powerhouse that I can't explain.
Sounds like the M1 MacBookAir is the best of both worlds in your case: More lighter and portable compared to your 16" M1 Pro.

Easier to have your laptop sit on your lap than holding and using a 12.9" iPad Pro for certain tasks. Word processing, typing up e-mails, browsing the internet, and watching YouTube are better on the MacBook Air vs 12.9" iPad Pro.

Just goes to show that they need to bring back the 12" Macbook. Or better yet, the 11" Air! :D
I hear ya (I still have mine)...but I think it is more likely that we'll have more quasi-MacOS capabilities/interface for the iPad Pro 11" than yet another 11 or 12 inch MacBook.

Important note...my predictions (at least the non-obvious ones) are running about 10% accurate, so you should take them with the required grain of salt.😜

Yeah, I agree - it's wishful thinking. My 11" Air was fantastic, but unfortunately Apple ruined me with Retina displays. :)

I remember some years ago driving to a nearby town to buy an 13-inch MacBook Pro, spending an hour in the store when I expected to be just in and out, and then coming away with a MacBook Air instead. Something about the form factor and feel of it, even though the Pro was a better machine with greater power and performance.

After a year or so, I got a Pro, and sold the Air, and had used the Pro (actually two) up until the M1 Air. I bought my 8/256 from the refurb store in late 2021 and have used it in preference to the 2019 Intel Pro because it's so light and quiet.

Now thinking maybe a 15-inch M3 MBA because my eyesight isn't as good as it was, but I just know I'd come back to this wedge-shaped form factor.

It's about half the weight of both, right? Or...

I too have found the iPad requires more effort than a typical laptop or computer. As such, I rarely update my iPad and only use it for task-specific needs such as ForeFlight.

They should have named the current M2/M3 MBA design the “MacBook” and left the “Air” branding for a super sleek, new version of the iconic, wedge-shaped design. But the Air branding was simply too powerful not to be used for these machines. Hopefully, they will one day bring back the 12” MB as the MacBook Air SE.

I sold my M2 and went back to the M1 mba. I prefer the wedge clamshell design, and the no-notch display.

The M1 is already more laptop than I need, so any performance differences between the M1 and the M2/3 don't matter. Though, magsafe on the M2 was mildly nice..

I have a 8/512 MBA because it was the best one that you didn't have to do CTO for, and I needed a new laptop ASAP (coming from an Acer Aspire E5-576 fully specced out)

I wish that the best non-CTO would have been 16/512 on the M1 like the latest M3 MBA is otherwise I would not need to upgrade.

It is a very nice laptop still, but what I do, I will be needing 16 GB very soon, which is why I am going to buy the M3 MBA in the next coming weeks. I probably would not be upgrading if you still had to CTO on the MBA.

I could buy a used M1 MBA with 16/512, but then I would not be able to get AppleCare+, and I recently replaced the battery on this 8/512. I hope that the M3 Air is just as comfortable to use in my bed as my M1 is.

And with that M3 Air that I am getting, I want it to last until it fails, or until it no longer gets software support.
