My first Mac was a Macintosh TV. It had 8MB of RAM, and was not expandable. Had a VCR connected to it, but I don't remember why I recorded off of the computer/TV instead of just the main TV in the family room. Anyway, I loved the black case. And, yes, I used ClarisWorks.

ClarisWorks was awesome. Everything I needed under one roof! My Dad had Word and Excel installed on the IIcx, but as a kid I found ClarisWorks to be much more accessible.

Lifelong Windows user here, starting at 3.1. I could have had an early-ish Mac for free in the mid-nineties when the IT dept scrapped various machines they'd tried. They went with Windows, the Mac probably to landfill...
I didn't get my hands on a Mac until a couple of years ago, when I got hold of a Mac Pro 2,1. Start at the top, why not?
:D
Swapped that for a big Win server which I stripped. Then recently bought, spares or repair, a 27" 2009 Core 2 Duo iMac. There was absolutely zero wrong with it, which I'd worked out from the ad, it just needed the faff of making a proper USB boot disk to do a clean install. Bingo, working machine.
Then a couple of weeks ago, I got another Mac Pro, a 3,1, for £20, VGC original box and manual included but no drives. So now I have as much Apple iron as I do Windows!

First Mac was a 512k "Fat Mac", purchased in 1985. Shortly afterwards I converted it to 512ke ("e" for "enhanced") which included new ROMs to support the Apple Hard Disk 20 that I purchased. Before I had a Mac, I was an early adopter of the Apple ][ which I purchased in 1978 and had a serial number less than 5000!

I'm another person who started on the Apple ][. The first Mac I used extensively was the Macintosh Plus. I got through university without ever actually owning my own Mac — I'd use my Apple //e for many things at home, and use the Macs at my job or on campus for everything else. I finally bought a Macintosh IIci after I graduated.

First Mac I used was a Mac IIsi. I had a part-time job running a Mac repair shop in a state office (k-12 education, so mostly Macs in early-mid 90s) Lots of different Macs in that department. Took me to the first Mac that I owned, which was a new Quadra 605.

I do not recall the first Mac I used but I clearly recall purchasing my first Mac. It was a Powerbook 1400cs purchased from Circuit City for around $2500. I still have it and occasionally boot it up for a trip down memory lane.

2010 Mac Mini with 2GB RAM running Snow Leopard. I wasn't aware at the time that I had 'joined the club' at what would later be considered a crest of OSX development. But I eventually came to appreciate that fact.

I don't remember what it was actually, but in High School as part of my Industrial and Architectural classes, we had Mac's. They were the beige ones that had the floppy disk in front. They were all running AutoCad, unknown what version though. Loved them! However, I couldn't afford a Mac until much later. 2008 Mac Pro was the first Mac I owned.

I don't recall the model name but it was back around 1983-1984. First Apple used was the Apple ][. Next was the Lisa which was the precursor to the Mac.

I wanted to work so bad at Circuit City back in college.

The first Mac I used was in school back in 2000. We had the grey boxy ones and then our school got some of the colorful ones. Don’t know what models any of them.

Probably a Classic, or maybe an LC. It was 1994 and we had a smattering of Macs at school, but there's no way I can remember which I used first. There was definitely a Colour Classic in the library, but the one in our classroom was a "pizza box".

Actually, a Dell Inspirion Hackintosh. I got everything on it working too, even the built in cellular modem, making it the first "Mac" with broadband built in :)

I think the first real Mac was a MacBook Pro 2011. I loved expanding it with RAM and an SSD. A second SSD if you took out the DVD drive and used one of those adapter kits. Those were the days.

17" iMac "Core Duo" 1.83 from 2006. Still remember how much it cost down to the penny. Got a carrying case and everything to bring it to the computer lab I had several classes in at High School for much of the year. It eventually died but I still have the Mighty Mouse that came with it.

Actually, on further review, my above post was not the first Mac experience I had. Back in high school (mid-80s,) we had Apple IIe's in computer classes. I remember playing a text-based game of the battle of Midway.

I was wondering what the first Macs that you guys used were. The first Mac I used was an OG 2006 17 inch MacBook Pro Core Duo (my dad is still steamed about how Apple screwed him over with the Core 2 lol)

1980s. MacSE. It wasn't mine, it was my older brother's. He got the first computer in the household, since he was the oldest, and first to go to college. But since he went to college about 60 miles away, he'd only be home on the weekends (at most). I was still in high school, and he left the MacSE at home.... and I played with it. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

I played glorious Black-and-White Mac games.... like the ancient Shufflepuck Cafe (image below). The OS was not even called MacOS yet, it was called something like System 7.

Mac 512k “Fat Mac” in 1985. I tried several times to get a credit card with my first job out of college in 1984 but it took 6 months before I built up any credit. The Mac was expensive but I had played with a 128k Mac at a computer store while at college and I was hooked. I knew that I wanted a Mac and only a Mac.

I upgraded that computer to a 512Ke and then found a third party 1MB upgrade board that clipped on the motherboard giving me 1.5MB. A $700 serial port based 30MB hard drive followed. Finally I upgraded it to a full blown Mac Plus and bought a SCSI hard drive and upgraded to 4 MB RAM.

It was the first aluminium iMac in 2007. Till that moment I was a windows fan boy that did build his own computers. But that iMAC was so goergeous that I had to try it. And once I tried it there was no way back - i boght it an did never have the wish to go back to windows or linux. One year later i bought my first MAC notebook. The MacBook AIR in 2008 was game changing - that thing was miles ahead of any other device when it came to portability... Since then i have kept using MACs, I am trapped in the Apple ecosystem :)

A Mac Classic around 1990, and then a LC475 at a friends house.
A Performa 630 in 1994 was my first Mac at home.

PPC, (G3) beige tower. When it was announced that it would be the 1st Mac to run the (not yet released ) OSX. It was still in OS9. I ran an Atari emulator on it, because all my existing software was for Atari ST - TT compatible.
