What's your early Intel mac score on Speedometer?

We have a thread going over here in the PowerPC forum where we're having fun comparing scores over various generation machine, OS and different browsers, so I thought it would be fun to do over here as well. I ran some different browsers (Opera, FF & SeaLion ) and got some fun results.

Opera 89.0.4 64bit yielded the fastest results which I found very surprising as it is by far the fatty of the three. This score was very similar to my core2duo a1078 08 mb and 08mbp. Id have thought the increased ram and cores of the cMP (quad core + 32gb ram and SSD raid0) would have anchored better results compared to a dualcore 2/2.3ghz 8gb ram portable.

FF 77.01 64b came in second.

I was really surprised by this as well. This is the most recent build 32.4 64bit. I think I am doing something wrong here lol. Literally just DLd this from github so will need to adjust a bit.

Note, I took this with two ram hogging apps open (InDesign CC21, Photoshop 2021) and a few other apps open: Word, SOMA FM, Nightingale and the Microsoft Edge browser.

I was streaming video from Youtube in the Edge browser at the time as well.

Here's a 08 unibody macbook running Ubuntu 22.4 and FF 116.0.3.

I could have sworn I ran this last week and it hit 40 but I cannot reproduce it now. Ow well, dems da breaks

Here are some of my results. I usually mainly use Brave and have uBlock Origin enabled. uBlock O. seems to lower scores a little.

MBP 15" early 2011 i7 2.2GHz 8GB, Big Sur, Brave browser 1.57.57 (no uBlock Origin):

iMac 27" mid 2011 i7 3.4GHz 32GB, High Sierra, Brave browser 1.57.57 (with about 50 windows open but minimized to Dock). I had uBlock Origin on when testing, without result is 117:

MBP 15" mid 2014 i7 2.2GHz 16GB, Catalina, Brave browser 1.57.57 (I had uBlock Origin on when testing, without result is 178):

Same MBP as above but Firefox 117.0 (no uBlock Origin, with uBlock origin enabled score was only 144).
Compared to Brave: without uBlock Origin 160 vs 178 and with 144 vs 168:

Ps. I don't know if it effects anything on this benchmark but all my tests were done through a VPN-service. At least I am sure that didn't speed up things but no idea how much it effects, if any.

Ugh, I cannot stand chrome however, I did go ahead and run this cMP 1,1+ElCap+Chrome and got some strong results - 15.2 point increase over Opera's 44.8. Man that is unfortunate considering Google's abysmal privacy record - woof.

I also ran Safari 9.1.2 with results back in line with Opera.

Googles Chrome is based on Chromium. So is the Brave Browser. So, by using the original Chromium or Brave you don't have to deal with Google at all. Brave is privacy focused browser.

That is great info - thanks. I will try both this weekend. Per the thread it looks like Vivaldi is also producing strong results as well, so I will give that a shot too and report back.

Well... its all relative, I was comparing to Chrome. And according the same site (last update on the site to any of the info is more than year old):
- Brave: Spyware Level: High
- Chrome: Spyware Level: EXTREMELY HIGH
- Firefox: Spyware Level: High
- Opera: Spyware Level: EXTREMELY HIGH
- Vivaldi: Spyware Level: High

Too bad they don't rate Safari, I'll bet it would be in the extremely high -category by the criteria they use.

If you read the comments on Brave you can see most of the "problems" can be opted out (like change default google search to something else), some of the listed things are just "suspicious" (like the browser downloads updates to itself) etc. I think Brave is among the good ones though, compared to most of the other browsers. And additionally: its an free open source project, so if you have a concerns then you can publish them and I am sure the community will address them.

If one is really paranoid then using Thor Browser on live OS through double VPNs, user agent and MAC-address spoofing is probably the best option for you. 👍🏻

Bassman - you may know this..but seeing your reflections, you're using a cellphone to get screen shots. Pressing AppleKey, Shift, 3 keys together gives you a screen shot, or with the 4 key (instead of the 3) to make a screen selection. (On Apple, I mean)
