Obviously who is foolish enough to offer 200 full price out the door, if a carrier gives you a deal they expect you to stick with them for a year or two
Interestingly enough, there doesn't seem to be strings attached with this deal. It's a cash discount (not monthly credit) and there's no early payment penalty. No carrier contract either. Month-to-month is okay.

Yea, it is a good price from Apple. I wasn’t going to get AC+ but, for that price, should something go wrong with the phone, the price of AC+ is reasonable, compared to out of pocket cost for repairs made by Apple.
I'm going for the $3.99 monthly as we'll probably keep this phone for a long, long time.

You can only get this deal if you already have a Verizon or AT&T account it makes you verify eligibility so it’s not for everyone. I’m on a metro by T-Mobile prepaid $15 mo

I would like to buy a 128GB in black or red for work but the unknown modem is a speed bump. The reviews of the phone that I have read are curiously silent about it and I am not ready for another Intel modem experience.

I meant that as no strings for current AT&T and Verizon postpaid customers.

I did the one time payment. The monthly is not transferable.
For us, we'll be keeping this a long time. Minimum 3 years so being able to transfer AC+ is not a concern.

If it has Intel modems (which is likely), it will be the XMM 7660, which is a newer generation than the one that was used in the iPhone X/XS/XR series, and has done pretty well in the 11/11Pro. So I wouldn't be concerned about that.

Why is XMM 7660 more likely? With the SE, Apple used a last gen modem. The SE2 would likely be similar and use XMM 7560 for cost reasons.

ordered a 64GB White one and a 64GB black one, not for myself

they may be replacing two iPhone 7's, they are going to be trialled and if they like them, will get them

They're still about 660$ each with tax in Canada so keeping them will depend on if they improve on day to day usage in speed, battery, and camera for the users

Likely because it's using the A13 chip etc, but Apple won't have a large supply of old modem chips so likely to just put the new spec on so it stays relevant with connectivity etc.

Also, the specs match the latest device, not the 8.

Gigabit-Class LTE vs LTE Advanced and 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6 vs 802.11ac Wi-Fi.

Apple buys the modem from Intel and the XMM 7560 already support Gig LTE.

The use of A13 is an entirely different situation because of economics. The more units of A13 are sold, the quicker Apple can recover their NRE costs. The modem comes from Intel.

The BT and Wi-Fi 6 chips reside on one module so it makes sense to update it. Again, this we saw this exact same thing with the original SE. The Murata module was updated but not the cellular baseband.

There is no XMM7560 stockpile. Intel has produced the 7660 just for Apple.

What stockpile? Do you think Intel has warehouses of modems sitting there? The XR and Xs continue to be sold everyday with the 7560. Not to mention cellular iPads.

Apple no longer produces phones with the 7560. The SE will be produced in the millions.

So the iPhone XR is no longer in production? Neither are the hundreds of carriers selling Xs and Xs Max? The iPad, iPad Air, and iPad mini also uses 7560. Apple Watch Series 5 and 4.

My 6S battery is getting weak, and since I never updated my iOS past 10, app support is drying up (not a huge concern to me, but might be inconvenient in the future) so I have pondered the idea of a new phone for a while. I'm quite used to the size of the 6S now, coming from an iPhone 3G and 5S.
Economy is not treating me well though, so it could be a while before I buy. When I do, it will be a White 64GB. I love that they went back to the black front/white back, just like on my 3G. All 3 colors look great on this.
I'm also using a 6s/128GB/iOS13. I don't like to let go ...
Finally a better camera and 5G will be the reason I'm gonna replace it at some point in the future.
A few weeks ago I've replaced it's battery, which came at 2% of the new SE/128GB.

I ordered my iPhone-SE Black 128gb (Sim-Free and Unlocked) from Apple.com today for $449.
I also got the 2-yr. AppleCare+ for $79.
Says I should get it delivered to Texas in 2-3 weeks (May 13 - May 20).

Going to try a $10 Spigen clear-case from Amazon this time. Also looking forward to finally setting-up my (recently gifted) Apple-Watch-5 .

I'm keeping my iPhone-5s to use as an iPod or whatever. It still works, but held at iOS-12.x
