Yes though S also 'upscales' to 4K which is similar to my pay HD viewing.
Not native 4K, hopefully S console is a bit smarter than x box one.
thanks
If the S and X and their games support DirectML, then 1440p will be upscaled in a way that makes it look as sharp and detailed as native 4k but achieve higher frame rates.

Could purchase Ghost Recon Breakpoint: for S Series.
Which I assume to be limited to 1440 30FPS -x box one version.
Does 30 FPS mean it is seriously slow moving graphics.
Never took notice when using ps4 or x box one.

I don't have a 4K TV or plan to get one anytime soon, thus the One Series S will great value to play next gen games (mainly trough gamepass) and my handful of backcompat favorites that I own digitally.

Edit: damn stupid naming...

Since my birthday is the 13th, I considered getting one, but there are no 4k TV's in our house and the TV our Xbox One S is connected to is only 720p.

Kinda pointless. :(

Some S Series potential.
the Xbox Series S, which will run The Falconeer at 1080p 120fps, or 1800p 60fps. While not quite 4K, the Xbox Series S running the game above 1440p is certainly a welcome surprise.

Interesting. Somehow I have missed the news about Falcon on the next gen consoles.

1800p at 60fps with ray tracing, dynamic lighting, long draw distances and heavily animated backgrounds is good.

Can't argue with that for £249 and £9/month for Gamepass. It's a cracking piece of kit.

I will personally not get too fixiated on 4k as I can envision many next gen console gamers favouring 120fps over higher resolution.

Is X Box next gen using a specific Bluetooth or wireless protocol for headphones.
Wondering if there is any remote chance that I could make use of my Avaya Savvi.
Which works for ios+win10 laptop.

thanks

No ray tracing for Devil May Cry 5 on the Series S.

That's a bummer. We'll have to wait and see how other games actually perform on the S.

I have no idea but hope that I will be able to use my Bluetooth Sony XM3 headphone as a headphones without having to use adapters/dongles.

Pretty much all 2018-2020 games are designed for ps4 and one. Although they are optimised for next gen they don't fully take advantage of the velocity architecture.

All of them are engineered the old school way e.g load the entire level info the RAM and let those assets hog all resources.

Next gen games will be able to only load visible parts of the game and thus resource utilisation will be completely different.

I wouldn't fully judge the ps5 and s/x until 1-2 years from now when games are not designed for legacy systems.

On a lark I went looking at possible replacement monitors for my 1080p secondary (which also serves as my Xbox input) and was bummed to find out that there's basically no good options out there—you either get a slow but nicer panel or you continue on with a crummy display at 120 or 144Hz. Getting ≥120Hz and HDR in a monitor, especially at <27" sizes, is essentially impossible. Guess I don't really have an appealing upgrade path for my panels for next-gen.

100%
Every monitor that's currently on the market is a compromise except for the LG CX TVs but they are big and expensive.

HDR still sucks on 90% of monitors as they are of HDR400 and not HDR600.

However many monitors on the market will be replaced next year's with HDMI 2.1 spec monitor capable of 4K at 120Hz.

It's worth waiting if you desperately don't need a new monitor right now.

I definitely am. At this point considering both console's soft launch I'm just waiting until the spring at least when there are more games and I've subsidized at least $300 of the cost from Rewards points.

The Series S looks so damn good. The unboxing videos of the retail unit highlights just how small it is compared with the Series X and PS5.

It will blend in anywhere including bedrooms.

I can foresee many buying it as a secondary console or as a media playback unit instead of Fire TV 4k or apple TV.

Well done Microsoft. Given that we have seen the Series X in its entire glory, we will likely see series s gameplay in the next few days.

Apparently the Series only has 380GB of usable space.

However this will likely be enough for casual gamers who only play 3-4 games at a time. In 18-24 months the cost of an expansion will likely have halved, making it more cost effective to buy.

Lastly, some next game titles will be modular. Enabling gamers to only install the multiplayer or campaign version to save space.
