XCode 14.2 (14C18) breaks with iOS 16.4 (IPhone 14/13/12 Pro & iPhoneX) - Failed to prepare device for development after OS/iOS updates

Anyone else experiencing this issue after updating their OS and iOS versions ?

Plugging in an iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhoneX all yield the same issue - reinstalled XCode from source and now reinstalling the iPhone 14 Pro.

Happening on M1 Mac's (Ventura) 13.3, MacPro (Late 2013 Monterey) 12.6.4 and MacBook Pro (2019 Intel Ventura) 13.3

Will report progress shortly on whether the device reinstall helped..

Device reinstall appears to work to resolve the matter on the 14 Pro - Make sure you do a backup beforehand

You'll need to re-activate developer mode (under Settings->Privacy) of course for connectivity to XCode to function as expected

After 10 seconds - XCode reports "Failed to prepare...."

same here.. want to connect my iMac M1 wirelessly to my AppleTV 4K (2022) and get the same message:

This operation can fail if the version of the OS on the device is incompatible with the installed version of Xcode. You may also need to restart your Mac and device in order to correctly detect compatibility.

Should we not expect a new Xcode 14.3 version to arrive anytime soon?

Ok - After doing a bit of research, iOS16.4 is not included in the Xcode release - I guess we are all waiting for the update (for 14.3)

One possibility ive been looking is to extract the iOS device files from the 14.3RC (on developer.apple.com) - and place them into the Applications/Xcode/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport folder

Im guessing the similar files for aTV and aWatch are missing too

The above process worked

Download the RC3 build from developer.apple.com - extract the xip

right click, "show package contents", then navigate to the directory Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport

Copy the 16.4 directory to your local installed XCode instance (same directory Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport)

You will probably find that you need to copy the AppleWatch (9.4) and AppleTV equivalent directories as required to solve the problem

Or Apple releases 14.3 today - who knows

Double click on the xip file - it will decompress and you'll have the Xcode application shown in the space (usually about 23gb) - Right click on this to "show package contents" and then follow the above - use the RC build though as it is likely to be more current (bug fixes etc)

In effect the signature files are missing and you are copying these into your current Xcode install (in the Applications directory)

Goto developer.apple.com - bottom of the screen click "Xcode" (in the footer navigation area) - Then on the screen, right side - download - click "from website" - this will take you to the download sections of the developer portal, and you can download from there..

Yep - that's what I had - on 5 systems... 2 MacPros 2013/2019, 3 laptops (M1 MBP, Intel (2019) MBP and M2 MBP)

To recap Xcode "Should" have downloaded the signatures automatically re the new iOS version and installed them - I can only think that this failed for one reason or another. Its weird that Apple, given the significances of this release is not seeing this issue in higher numbers

Apple and Xcode - these are two different companies, and Xcode seems to be slowing down

Monterey is the last version my Mac supports. Xcode 14.2 is the last Xcode version Monterey supports. iOS 16.3.1 is the last iOS version Xcode 14.2 supports. Copying the 16.4 folder from Xcode 14.3 RC to DeviceSupport doesn't seem to work.

I see only two solutions: Downgrade my iPhone to 16.3.1 or buy a new Mac. Am I missing something?

UPDATE: Oh wait, the 'copying the 16.4 folder' fix does work. I just have to keep the deployment target at 16.2. Huge relief!
