Any freelancer will tell you that they have variable cashflow. Some months will be good, and some will be lean. Buying the Design Collection of Creative Suite when I had the money, and then only upgrading when I had amassed the cash to do so, suited me perfectly. But were non-pros spending $700 on a copy of Photoshop in the old days? Or $2,600 for the entire Master Collection?
A subscription is a fixed cost to my business operation. An upgrade, when I'm ready, is an investment from capital.
