Blue light can cause eye strain, headaches, dry eyes, fatigue, and blurry vision in some people, and it is hard to avoid between work on the computer and day-to-day iPhone and iPad usage. Blue light can also impact sleep because it affects the production of melatonin and your body doesn't naturally produce enough to tell you when to go to sleep.

The blue light filters block up to 99 percent of UV and blue light emissions between 300-400nm, and up to 54 percent of harmful blue light between 400 to 470nm. Ocushield says that its iPhone and iPad screen protectors are meant to preserve the natural colors of the device for a clear picture.

The iPhone and iPad Screen Protectors are both made of thin, tempered glass, which also offer screen protection. They come with an anti-bacterial coating, oil resistance, and an anti-reflection coating that cuts down on fingerprints. Ocushield says that the screen protectors are able to prevent eye strain, improve sleep, and protect the eyes and skin from harmful blue light.

While the iPhone and iPad Screen Protectors are permanent and attach with no-damage adhesive, Ocushield's MacBook Anti-Blue Light Filter works a little differently. Apple does not recommend closing a MacBook with a screen protector attached, so the Blue Light Filter for Mac is removable.

It adheres using silicone or magnets depending on your Mac model, and it can be put on when you're using your Mac and then taken off when you need to close the display. It offers the same blue light protection as the iPhone and iPad Screen Protectors, but it also has a built-in privacy filter. When attached, the display of a Mac viewed from the side is near black, preserving privacy. It also has an anti-bacterial coating and an anti-glare coating that cut down on glare and reflections.

It also has a greater impact on color accuracy because it uses display color temperature for blocking blue light. Are the protectors glossy or matte? I think I should get one for my iPhone even though I have night shift on all the time.

If you can see the color blue from the screen, it's self evidently not blocking blue light. To not impact the circadian rhythm and affect sleep like this product claims, it would need to be orange tinted. I don't trust the clear blue blocking screens to do anything and wear true blue blocking safety glasses when using lights and screens at night.

Studies have shown that certain wavelengths of blue light can impact our sleep patterns and overall eye health. While it's true that not all blue light is bad i.e. natural blue light from the sun, prolonged exposure, especially at night and to artificial blue light, can have effects on our circadian rhythm as well as increase risk of eye issues such as age related macular degeneration. So, while it might seem like pop culture chatter, there's real science behind the concerns. I'd be happy to share some research papers with you if you were interested?

Our Ocushield screen protecters filter up to 100% of harmful blue light, all while maintaining the true colours of your screens. Do you mean NightShift blocks 54% of visible blue light, and Ocushield blocks 100% of UVA/B light?

I suppose for Ocushield filtering 100% of sub-400nm wavelength to mean anything, I would like to know: How much UVA/B light does a typical iPhone produce, and how much of that light escapes through the CeramicShield into one's eye? Is it greater than 0%?

and up to 54 percent of harmful blue light between 400 to 470nm.

To that end... how does that compare from any ordinary glass?

What is the anti-bacterial coating Ocushield features?

Are there any chemicals in the PFAS family used or added to this product?

Also, overall it feels a little [sleazy/overhyped] that you're advertising that your company is "medically rated" and FDA registered. Is FDA registration simply providing your name and address? What is the medical rate Ocushield got?

Yes blue light can affect the sleep patterns of some people. Personally, I've never had issues when reading on my iPad while in bed. Usually don't last more than 15 minutes before shutting it off and falling into a sound sleep.
If one is having issues then buying these blue light shielding products may be helpful. Or they may not really be helpful at all. Have studies been conducted substantiating the claims of those selling these products?

This article claims that at leas some products don't work at least in regard to eyestrain:

I really wish Apple let us permanently keep the night mode on instead of constantly having to manually turn it back on everyday.

I did some additional research. At a minimum, this company is illegally using FDA registration.

Yeah...that's the real question isn't it? The answer is the iPhone screens generate a negligible amount of energy in the 300-400nm range. So even if this product blocks 100% of this "harmful" range, it doesn't much matter if the iPhone screen isn't putting out much of anything for it to block.

And no, light in the 400 to 470nm range is not "harmful"

And no, there's no way to filter light in the 400 to 470nm range without affecting the colors on the screen. That's a ridiculous claim. It won't do anything that Nightshift doesn't already do.

This product, like all "blue light blocking" products, is garbage.

Please do provide us with research papers that show iPhone screens produce enough "harmful blue light" to cause an increase of eye issues such as age related macular degeneration.

And please provide us with research papers that show that there's a difference between "harmful" blue light and "natural blue light from the sun".
