hdr video

When I open HDR videos on Safari it only shows me the standard SDR quality options, but whenever I use Chrome I can use HDR and it looks significantly better. Is there a way to get Safari to work with HDR, or is it only possible with Chrome and other browsers?

Forgive me if this has been discussed, but for optimal HDR viewing on the 12.9, do you have to manually turn the brightness all the way up? Or do HDR videos automatically adjust the brightness levels?

I'm running 10.14.6 - HDR videos from the iPhone 12 are appearing washed out in the Photos app - this is just thumbnails though, the videos play fine. Is anyone else seeing this?
