aaaaaaand this is definitely absolutely not going to look good in the slightest bit.

wow this is awful timing. this is going to tank CEO approval rating

The thing is that Cook doesn’t have to care anymore. He is obscenely rich and will always be no matter what he does. Any drop in popularity will likely be momentary.

Even in the unlikely event it’s not and Apple decides he’s too much of a liability to the Apple name to keep him around, he will get plenty of money on the way out, still be rich beyond any reasonable measure, and can still find work elsewhere to get even richer. So there’s essentially nothing to stop him from this move no matter how bad it looks and/or is coming right after the HKMap Live app was pulled.

1 Chairman of the Advisory Board:
although we hope the position of Chairman of this advisory board is more of an honorary position, i envision Tim sitting at his desk within the Spaceship working on Tsinghua's issues.
this is distressing.

2 but, as Chairman, when the time comes that Tsinghua is discovered to be involved with Uyghur imprisonment, i am sure he will do the right thing.
The Eduction of Tim Cook is a book that will be written. very soon.

Can he resign from Apple now?

Depends how young they are, he'll probably side with them.

Apple and the board only cares about one thing right now.

Stock price and margins.

As long as what Timmy does increases both, his politics and his hypocritical behaviour is irrelevant.

AVARICE. MONEY ABOVE ALL ELSE. Screw human rights. Screw peoples freedom. access to 1 billiion potential customers is worth throwing all his morality out the window for.

This looks really bad for Tim and Apple. Personally, I no longer believe any of their stances anymore beyond marketing to make them more money. I was incredibly naive to think they might actually be one of the few different companies that actually cared about things beyond profit. It’s all lip service, just like everyone else. I still enjoy their products but don’t look at them the same anymore since this whole China fiasco.

How does he have time to the Chairman of the Board of this institution? Then again, I suppose it's not like he's paying attention to the products being developed at Apple, so he probably has copious amounts of time.

Chairman of a School of Economics and Management is akin to having a few luncheons a year.

Advisory board. Does anyone who’s distressed, concerned, outraged, etc know what that position entails? Hint: the advisory board meets once per year. But it’s definitely a great networking opportunity.

Cook’s been a member since 2013. Chairman is a three year term, so you won’t have to be concerned for too long, only three meetings. Maybe Elon Musk will be the next chairman and you’ll direct your outrage and conspiracy theories at him :)

If not Elon, maybe one of the other advisory board members:
