Large libraries crash often (10,000+ mp3s) and it's a resource hog as well. I prefer to use Vox although since Coppertino took over, it's been high on resources as well. OS X badly needs a solid MP3 player that focuses only on music.

iTunes is a complete mess.

Hm - I have over 80k (mostly) lossless files, and have no such crashes. Maybe I'm just lucky.

I think apple gave me that icon as a bug, by mistake. I re-downloaded iTunes when it was released a few days later on the actual UK site for iTunes and I now have the "proper" icon with a white circle surrounded by a gradient. It doesn't fit in with the rest of the icons but I don't hate it.
You CAN go to DeviantART and do a quick search for "El Capitan iTunes" and you should be able to find a custom icon similar to the one I posted before. I hope this helps! :)

Use QuickTime. It plays audio files quickly and efficiently. Although there isn't support for creating libraries, playlists, etc.
Use get info on any audio file and change open with to QT, then click change all…

LOL, I'll stick to Vox.
