Hi all,

I succeeded in installing Monterey 12.3.1 on my Mac Pro 5.1 (mid 2010) with upgraded WiFi ac & BT 4.2 module BCM943602CDP using OCLP 0.4.3 then using OC 0.7.9 of Martin Lo.

Nevertheless, I don't have Bluetooth anymore, whereas on previous releases of Monterey, my BCM943602CDP module was fully functional. WiFi works correctly.

Any help would be appreciated. ??

Here is a screenshot of the Bluetooth material window :

@Mic-M4c I have the same bt/wifi card and running 12.3.1 with Martin’s OC package, my bt works perfectly well as with previous OS versions. I am not sure why you mix OCLP with Martin’s package, it is not recommended. I would suggest just using one or the other.

@Stex
I wasn't able to clean install Monterey 12.3.1 with OC 0.7.9 only :( The process didn't reach the end.
That's why I tried with OCLP 0.4.3 (TUI) and it was ok !

That good, but then -- why use Martin's package after that? OCLP should work properly without additional OC packages like Martin's, correct? I never used OCLP so can't comment on it.

FYI this might be related to your BT issue, but I am not sure based on you mixing OC packages. Read on if interested:

Disconnect the bluetooth wire that goes to usb (d+/d-) and plug back in. That’s what I did when BT wasn’t working and it fixed my issue

How did you install Monterey then please ?

I have a doubt… :
When using version 0.7.9, I only have to inject the OC+BOOT directories into the EFI of my boot disk and then I'm supposed to install Monterey with a clean Monterey installer
OR do I also have to inject 0.7.9 (OC+BOOT directories) into the EFI of the USB install drive ?

I have always done OTA macOS updates/upgrades, I never had to do a clean install of Big Sur or Monterey. Clean installs should possible, many members here have done that via OC. You should ask the scenario of a clean install in the OCLP discord (if that's what you are using, I'm still not sure whether you currently only use OCLP or a mix of packages).

As for the BT issue, the link I posted in my prior post explains what I and others did to eliminate the internal BT/USB 1.1 issue with Monterey. Again, OCLP has workarounds to fix the internal BT/USB 1.1 issue so if you only use OCLP you should be able to get BT working, many OCLP users reported that to be the case. The approach in the link posted in my prior post is mainly to avoid those patched workarounds and have a more stable hardware solution.

After much consideration, I have decided to install Monterey on my old Mac pro 5.1. I will take the risk and do it. Everything is set and today I will have a USB that is ready with OpenCore Legacy patcher and Monterey ready to go. My only issue that I need to resolve is how in the world do I see the boot screen?

Here are my options:
1) Install my other GT120 alongside my RX 580 and install Monterey. The GT120 will let me see the boot screen and the RX580 will fulfill the requirement of a Metal card

2) Remove the 580, install GT120 and boot the mac to only see the screen. Memorize the boot options so that I can select my USB drive. Remove the 120 and install the RX580. Press the directional buttons to select the boot option.

So of these two options, which one is the best way for me to go? Or is there a third option that I can do?

I do have a concern for option 2 that when the OS reboots during installing of the OS, I will need to select the boot device or will the Mac auto select for me? Now the memorizing technique only works if the order of the boot devices does not change

Please let me know your thoughts
Hello Phil, I think im exactly like u, im running Mac Pro 5.1 Mojave, but single trail W3530 @ 2.80GHz Boot ROM Version: 144.0.0.0.0.
The GPU I still have the old ATI 2GB which has the boot screen, the radeon pro wx doesn't.
im afraid just with the bluetooth cause im using the apple mouse, the internet here is on cable.
Could you let me know which tutorial did u use to make this upgrade?

im planning install im my old SSD 120gb, if everything goes ok, I'll install in the Kingston 500 SSD in the main sata tray

Hi guys, I try to install Monterey 15.4 on my MacPro 2010 32Gb RAM nVidia Quadro K2000 with bootscreen, I also have a Nitro+ RX580 Special Edition 8Gb from Sapphire, storage is Sonnettech m2.4x4 SSD 970 Plus 4x. With Monterey latest version I get to 96% install on a separate NVME SSD, but than the screen goes black. Everything is fine with Mojave, I have bootscreen from K2000. But I cannot get any further??? What do I have to do?

Hi, I just installed Monterey 15.4 om my Mac Pro too, for the most part successful, I installed everything on 1, 1 TB SSD. Everything works how it should but on startup after like 5 minutes i get a kernel panic, when it restarts it does the same thing again. Finally after the second kp, the mac works like it should
My CPU (Dual X5690 6core) seems like its struggling on startup and peaks around 70% after a while it goes back to normal, and yes i have tested it with no startup apps.

My specs:
Mac pro 5.1 mid 2010
2 x 3,46 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon X5690
124 GB DDR3
Radeon RX 580 8 GB
1TB SSD

Hi guys,
I have successfully installed Monterey 12.6.1 on my cMP 5.1 (mid 2010) few days ago. However, I encounter a recurring restart problem :( that I didn't encounter with Big Sur last update.

Any idea ? Thank you in advance 🙏🏻

I decided to test MLo 0.8.6 beta 2 and everything seems to work fine :)
The reboot problem probably came from the fact I hadn't reset the PRAM when changing from 0.7.9 to 0.8.0 + new config.plist and from 0.8.0 to 0.8.6 beta 2.
Things seem to be ok now. New test tomorrow.
Thx

hi.

is there a step-by-step OS 12 install procedure somewhere here?
I intend top do this on my upgraded flashed 4.1(5,1)

1. Disable SIP

2. Reset PRAM/NVRAM

3. Create a bootable installer USB drive 15GB+
with OLCP 0.5.1, choosing macOS Monterey 12.6.1 and flash it (automatically done by OLCP)

Screenshot.png
Screenshot 1.png

4. Built and Install OpenCore still with OLCP 0.5.1 (specific to your Mac) and install those OpenCore files into the EFI Boot of the same USB drive 15GB+.

Screenshot 2.png

5. Reboot by pressing Option key (ALT) and select the EFI Boot Volume of the USB Drive 15GB+, with the orange icon bottom right) :

20221108_140054.jpg

This operation implies that your graphic card is flashed for a cMP 5,1 and supports Apple bootscreen. If it doesn't, you have to boot in Recovery Mode (Cmd+R)and open the Terminal.

Enter the famous command :
Code:
diskutil list
Identify the name of the EFI Boot of your USB Drive 15GB+ in the big list, for exemple disk3s1.
Then enter (mind the space after mount) :
Code:
diskutil mount /dev/disk3s1
(supposing the name is disk3s1)
This command mounts the EFI partition.
Then enter (mind the space after bless, mount and EFI) :
Code:
bless --mount /Volumes/EFI --setBoot
This command forces to boot on the designed EFI volume.

6. By choosing the EFI Boot where the OpenCore files have been injected by OLCP, you will jump to the black bootscreen of OpenCore. Once there, choose the Install macOS Monterey.

1668894778128.png

7. During installation, several reboots will occur. Be careful and choose (on the black bootscreen) macOS Installer while it is displayed+++
When it not displayed anymore, the installation is supposed to be finished and, at the next black bootscreen reboot choose the icon mac OS Monterey (not macOS Installer (not shown) and not Install Monterey).

8. You should be fine.

excellent thank you.

some dumb questions:

1. presumably the usb installer is created from the targt mac?

2. where to get a disk image for OS12 assuming apple store is not an option ?
