I’m experiencing a lot of stuttering in animations on the iPhone 11 running 15.4.1. Also a lot of memory/RAM refreshing apps when I go back into them, but that might be a limitation with the GB’s of RAM in the iPhone 11 vs. screen size.

People having issues: were older iOS 15 builds a mess for you too or only the later / most recent ones?

15.1.1 is smooth on my 12 pro and 15.1 on my 2021 m1 11” and se2

coming from 14.1 , 14.5 and 14.8 respectively no other frame of reference

Apple’s subscription model allows to replace a device every year iirc. So the devices taken back early have to be marketed somehow (2nd hand, refurb etc.), as recycling after one year would be a very bad thing to do on multiple levels!

Also, Apple can’t simply „switch off“ a device after 4-5 years and demand recycling. That would cause a - justified! - uproar among customers and governments alike.

The trend is currently going towards a _prolonged_ device lifetime (even laws are underway to support that), so Apple needs to find better ways to keep their customers satisfied. Maybe they even get their act together to ensure long-term and consistent software quality. ?

Sounds like Science-Fiction, I know, but a man can dream, right?! ;-)
That’s interesting, they’ll probably run a model where the subscription becomes cheaper after a certain period, but there still needs to be an incentive to upgrade to a newer phone and ideally for Apple, remove those older phones from circulation.

Really hoping it means an end to planned obsolescence, but maybe I’m being too hopeful.

Welcome to iOS 15.

Yes, the issue was already somewhat on iOS 14.6+ but no where near as prevalent as iOS 15 (starting from the betas).

Problem: Springboard responsiveness - low
Detail: To_home_animation.

It tells us that problem is real and Apple must know about this issue. I filled up feedback and sended to Apple.

It would be better to post that in the iOS 15.5 beta thread.

It clearly isn't isolated to the beta when it's also happening on 15.4.1 though.

But yeah, post that in the 15.5 beta thread to raise awareness that this is a real issue and not some placebo (I have been ridiculed for it).

I have an XS and I’m still on iOS 12.4 beta. It works good still. Is there any reason I should update?

Goodness this is so depressing. Was hoping to upgrade to iOS 15 right before 16 is released, mainly for the security fixes, but things are looking bleak.

I have to say it's better than first release of iOS 15. My iPhone 12 Pro works great unless I pushing HW to the limit. Day to day use is flawless. But I expecting flawless behavior even on the HW limit.

I spent some time with iPhone 13 Pro Max and there is no such a problem with animations. I believe that Apple just make animations faster for ProMotion display. Older iPhones just can't push so many frames per second and display with 60hz just skipping frames.

Personally, there are features introduced in iOS 13 and 14 that I enjoy having. With iOS 15 only really Live Text so far. My iOS 15 experience isn't terrible, but it is noticeably worse IMO. The current release seems to run smooth... sometimes, and then noticeably less so other times. iOS 14 just had a more consistent higher level of performance.
