iPhone 11 iPhone 11 Upgrade Programme UK pricing is eyewatering

I don't usually complain about this sort of thing, you really just have to accept it, but the UK pricing for the iPhone 11 range is incredible - especially for the upgrade programme.

For example - iPhone 11 Pro Max starts at £63.95 a month. In the US it starts at $54.08 a month. $54.08 = £43.80. Basically a £20 premium for UK users.

What makes it even more insane is that iPhone 11 starts at £40.45 a month.

A US 11 Pro Max is only £3 a month more than a UK 11!

Man.

Welcome to the UK we accept everything these days thank God our sim only contracts plans are getting cheaper.

I always purchase my phone sim free and use my £7 600 minutes ayce data sim plan from 3uk.

add your sim plan ontop of the price and scream bloody expensive.

The prices here are extortionate which is why very few are buying the flagship iPhones and opting for the cheaper models. It’s the very reason carriers are pushing 3 year contracts to entice upgraders to go for the top models with lower monthly costs.

It doesn’t seem to be working though as I’m seeing very few flagship iPhones and the retailers are reporting higher sales of phones like the XR and iPhone 8. This year will be much of the same.

It's the same thing with other European countries as well. The price is outrageously expensive. New iPhone 8 price in the US 489 USD = 442 euros. In Europe it ranges from 530 to 560 euros. VAT sucks your wallet dry.

In addition, there are no iPhone Upgrade Program in many EU countries, so you are forced to buy the phone outright if you want to buy directly from Apple.

Yes but the VAT rates haven't changed and it's never been like this. The first load of iPhones were adjusted, then the last 4/5 have been £1=$1 (so still a premium because of the exchange rate but still), now it's $699=£749, even though the exchange rate is $1=£0.80. Premium is huge, doesn't matter about VAT.

At UK price, iPhone 8 is actually the same price now which is £479 = 535 euros though. So at least at this level, VAT is the major factor in the hefty price increase.

They probably are, but in the past they've kept the pricing for years, keeping prices high. I'm expecting another iTunes adjustment of prices up any day soon.

The GBP is not very far away from an unprecedented crash in case Mr. Johnson follows through with his plan, so I don't think what Apple is doing is unreasonable.

They've done similar stuff in Russia, Turkey etc. - i.e. countries where the leaders make inexplicable decisions with huge (negative) economic impact in the name of incomprehensible desires. In Russia prices have gone up 35% overnight one time.

It’s because of the UK pound crashing. It’s not around 1.3 but closer to 1.2 and it’s the lowest it’s been in 3 years recently. You can thank Boris really. Apple have to work with that.
