You’ll know in a couple of days. I don’t think you can jump to conclusions after a single day. I just downloaded a ton of iCloud crap in the first hour plus an update much less ask the apps and other syncing. See where it falls in a few days. If it’s a problem exchange it.

Also, do a clean install.

I agree entirely with your first paragraph but your second is nonsense. All a clean install will do is reset everything, delete every index, and give the phone (and battery) a huge new job to setup and index everything all over again.

I’ve been using iPhones since 2008, and have gone directly from 3G to 3GS, 4S, 5, 6S, 5S (don’t ask), SE, XR and most recently 13 Pro, and I have NEVER done a clean install in 14 years. I get great battery life.

11:52 now, used my phone for ~10 minutes since last post. Battery now on 71% (down 15% in 3 hours).

AOD on my PM, and my battery drained just a bit more than usual, expected it because of the indexing. Was down to 55% at end of day, after all apps finished loading on home wifi. Actually surprised it was still that high. Second day performing just fine. Love the AOD more than I thought I would. Not turning off.

Hopefully, your battery life will improve after indexing is complete.

Yeah I know. I just figured I would get 2 hours less or whatever. Instead every time I look at the battery % in the top right it’s down a %. Probably every 5 mins

How would I know if my phone was indexing? My recovery was done and I woke up to a dead phone hot phone so it has to of been processing something. This was the first day I had it.

Well I was getting the heating issues with my MagSafe connector constantly disconnecting while indexing, and downloading all my apps and files which went on for several hours after the Quick start phone to phone transfer and iOS 16.01 update. So I put on lightning connector for the duration. It held it at 84-83 percent for that time but had same message about no charging because of heat (primarily on the MagSafe). I then put on MagSafe after indexing was done it charged quickly to 100 got a little warm but the indexing and stuff was done. Now it needs to learn my charging habits to space charging for me overnight.

So you might have needed to disconnect and reconnect it did seem while on lightning it was doing no charging although it was staying in 80 percent range kind of holding on lightening but until I put back on MagSafe it was not recharging either now seems normal. Try again for 24 hours and see if this behavior goes away for you? Good luck

You didn’t present it as an option, you just told OP to do it regardless, which is lousy advice.

Clean installs are just time wasters that make you feel like you’re achieving something, when in reality the system’s just sorting itself out. Patience is all that’s actually necessary (that and perhaps turning it off and on again, the cure for most ills).

We all want the best battery life and see how others compare. It's just way too soon to judge battery life and make yourself crazy trying to figure out what app or action is depleting battery life. It's going to take a few days not a few hours to get the answer. No disrespect or discouragement to the OP.

I really hope that’s the case because I took my phone off my charger about 2.5 ago and kept sleeping and now it’s down to 72 percent and I’ve not used it at all in the 2.5 hours

My battery life was pretty bad on the first full day. You can see it drop to 25% on the left side of the graph. From 75% to 25% it was mostly sitting idle.

Also it just completely up on me transitioning from the car to the office wi-fi. Had to do the vol up - vol down - hold power trick to reboot it.

Any improvement OP? Having same battery drain issue I setup mine on Friday still draining like crazy. I just setup another phone battery was steady for hrs just mine is draining. Lots of BS comments about indexing makes me laugh. This isn’t windows PC iOS doesn’t index for days. I may do a new phone instead of restore from backup.
