Hi All -

So fair warning, this is a bit of a deep dive on battery health specifically on the iPhone 14 Pro as we approach a year (if you purchased at launch). There is an app called coconut battery that can identify your battery manufacturer and I am curious to see where everyone's maximum capacity is after a year based on the manufacturer of the battery.

The first thing you will need is this app:

Great app to look at your computer and iPhone battery health in great detail. I am focused on the iPhone 14 Pro battery which is underneath the iOS Device tab. Once there you can click on "Battery Info" to see your battery manufacturer and other info. I am looking to see if there is a correlation between having a Sunwoda battery versus a Desay battery (manufacturer).

My coconut battery results below: (iPhone 14 Pro Max Terabyte, purchased 9-29-22)

Desay Manufacturer Battery
Manufacturer Date 08-22-22
Age 354 days
Design Capacity 4323mAh
Full Charge Capacity 3994 mAh
Cycle Count 258

Now underneath your iPhone's battery life settings you can click on "Battery Health and Charging" and see your Maximum Capacity left. Mine is at 91%. I would also like to share that I usually charge with 30w Anker charger at home and a 30w charger in my Tesla. Apple USB-C to Lightening cables. I occasionally charge it with the MagSafe duo charger as well with my iWatch Ultra. Those are my typical charging methods over the past year, and in year's prior.

I have owned every iPhone (not proud to admit that), but this iPhone battery has degraded much more rapidly over a year than any other iPhone I have owned. I would usually be around 95-97% after a year with similar charging methods over the past four years.

If you want to post your coconut battery results like I did and when you purchased your iPhone 14 Pro, I would be curious if we start to see a correlation with degradation between the two manufacturers.

Look forward to seeing what we come up with!

Coconut Battery is quite known. Anyway, back to the thread:
My POS iPhone 14 Pro Max Battery reads as follows:
Manufacturer: DESAY
Capacity: 3950/4297 mAh
Cycles: 206
Health: 92%
Bought: October 8th, 2022
Worst battery degradation I've ever had in a phone.

Using Coconut Battery for over 10 years now, never had a problem with it.
But if you don't trust it, don't install it, this is the way (to go).

Thank you for the feedback JCCL. I agree, worst degradation I have seen in an iPhone I have owned. Would you mind sharing your Maximum Capacity percentage in the iPhone battery settings? Did you also purchase in Sept 2022?

Thank you for the feedback Dolphin. WOW 100% left according to iOS battery settings, interesting. I also see your full charge capacity is way above the design capacity which suggest you are one of the lucky ones that received a better battery.

Every year, the iPhone peaking charging power increases. So if you use a 30W charger, you'll see more heat and probably degradation.

iPhone 12 Pro - 24W
iPhone 13 Pro - 27W
iPhone 14 Pro - 29W
great info! I have heard some people believe that fast charging depletes batteries faster and others that say it does not as modern batteries/phone tech are built to handle and control the different charging scenarios. I know people who fast charge exclusively and still have 99-100% on their battery life after a year so not sure if that is the case... ::waits for someone more versed in battery tech to weigh in::

In short, heat can permanently reduce battery life. This is a known limitation with Li-ion batteries. Apple evens suggests customers remove cases when charging due to heat.

It's like smoking cigarettes - certain lucky individuals will live to over 100 years. But the vast majority of people who do that have reduced life expectancy.

Never had an iPhone battery degrade this fast before. I've also had disappointing battery life from day one. **** year for battery longevity all around.

My coconut battery results show my iPhone 14 pro max at 102 percent health. I purchased it at the end of December. I have around 180 charge cycles on it. This happened because I started using the 40 80 charging rule after getting this phone.
I wish there was a way to select in the battery settings don’t charge above 80%. That would be fine with me. Then in a pinch or if traveling, go in and deselect it to charge to 100%.

3utools had me about 40 points over stated capacity. Desay and of course still 100%. Phone made in August 2022. Used one week after launch.

They say Desay is the preferred manufacturer.

The 40/80 rule, are you serious? I don't know how I could manage the charging that closely but if that is a thing, good to know! Thank you for sharing.

Okay, I have been hearing that Sunwoda is where it is at. I am seeing some strong Desay reports thus far. How have you been charging over the past year?

Mixed of contactless charging (MagSafe charger, MagSafe Duo, Lab22 charging stand), external battery pack, CarPlay, and Lighting cable; pair with Apple 20W or dual 35W power adapter. I have a case on too.

Sunwoda in the house! This is the first report I have heard about Sunwoda battery running down quick. Most reports have been 97-100% that I have seen. How have you been charging over the past year?
