The Dynamic Island itself is not annoying. What some apps do with it is. Spotify, for example, puts a moving group of bars (don't know the actual name) to indicate music is playing. For one, it does absolutely nothing, and second, it is very distracting when you're in any other app trying to read or anything. So, unbelievably bone-headed move by Spotify... but they're kind of like that.
