I have a 2008 Mac Pro, thing runs like a champ, it was able to swindle it's way into using handoff with an easy upgrade better than any of the newer model mini/air/MacBook Pros... And still benchmarks better than most newer macs yet they blocked it (at least for now) very disappointing apple. And for people saying "well we had a good... Years" that's ridiculous, I can understand when hardware is an issue but comeon. I saw this when they introduced handoff. They just shut features off for macs that "couldn't support it" now it no os at all?
Why? At least try back up your bold proclamation with some facts.
What facts? Buy new hardware. Oh no, no more free OS updates on a 6/7+ year old machines.
My TV from 2014 doesn't even get new updates. Welcome to reality.
Its a bloody joke. Apple likes to do the talkey-talkey when it comes to environmental sustainability, but when it comes to actual device support they couldn't give a flying damn.

I'm sorry, maybe not everyone can afford a new MBP every year or 2. My MBP late 2011 may be 5 years old be its nowhere near useless. Hell, all my PowerPC Macs from 2005 and earlier are far from useless as well. So I don't want to hear that everything older than 2012 should be dropped, but it's just plain dumb.
Thats attitude is terrible for the environment and completely stupid. Have you looked how fair back Windows 10 supportS?
You can run Windows 10 on certain Pentium 4s, and Windows 7 can run on original Pentiums...

Buy new, more capable hardware. I'd rather they not cripple the OS to support old machines.
Also, a dual Xeon quad core Mac Pro from 2008 and onward can beat your 2012+ MBPs any day...
Not to mention Linux and *BSD. NetBSD is the undisputed king. It even runs on hardware that only collectors still have. In general, it is nice to know that operating systems can just adapt. It is software after all. What Apple is doing is purely a business consideration of not having to waste money on man-hours. There is never a technical reason for dropping support.
Not that you'd want to, the experience would be horrid.
The sensible 64-bit version is effectively tied to similar era hardware as current versions of OS X. Early 64-bit CPUs and later low-end ones lack certain instructions Windows 8.1 and 10 require.
Most of the hardware they dropped is more than capable.
Windows 10 manages support for machines back to 2004.

So enjoy El Capitan. You are not entitled to get new OS for free every year for eternity.
Someone posted that Apple just does not test this device anymore and they are not distributing untested software. The OS may run perfectly fine, but the installer will just not recognise it.
I'm saying we should, but there's no reason to retire a machine that with a RAM and GPU upgrade it would beat any current MBP without revving up a fan
