Good luck. I considered doing the same as I prefer android. But after a few days with the 7 pro I realized I’m unwilling to compromise on some things and one of them is biometrics. The P7Pro cut corners there and while it’s way better than the 6, it’s still way worse than FaceOD or the ultrasonic FP scanners on flagship Samsung phones.
My 13 Pro Max is so damn good that any new phone I get needs to be an upgrade and the 7 Pro didn’t feel like one (even though the OS feels great). Same reason I didn’t upgrade to the 14 Pro Max, just didn’t feel like an upgrade.
Personally, I’m staying with the 13 Pro Max until the next iPhone, until the Fold 5, or until Google stops cutting corners with the Pixel line.
I'm glad you have the choice. The iPhone 13 Pro Max is probably the best iPhone ever made in my humble opinion.
That being said, I think the pixel 7 Pro is a really good device. The fingerprint scanner being optical is really not a problem. I have a Samsung Galaxy s22 plus with ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and it is not very reliable. At least in my experience, the seven pro is very reliable in terms of the fingerprint scanner.
Being able to use speech to text in order to write this is pretty cool. I really can't do that on my iPhone.
They're definitely some things I'm going to miss with my iPhone. However, for me right now there really isn't any other option. I can't buy another iPhone 13 Pro Max and I don't want the 14 Pro Max because there is no physical SIM card. Plus in order to trade in my iPhone I would have to spend several hundred dollars to get the iPhone 14 Pro Max or something inferior in the iPhone lineup.
Since I have a Galaxy s22 plus I am going to wait until the s23 is announced and then I may upgrade to the ultra.
For now it seems I will be waiting until next year until I get another iPhone.
In terms of feeling like an upgrade, I agree. The iPhone 13 Pro Max feels more premium than the seven pro. However, there are some things I like about it more than the iPhone. As you said, the software experience on the pixel is pretty incredible. I also like the cameras. I also like the fact that it's a lighter device. The iPhone 13 Pro Max is really heavy. I didn't notice this it until I got the s22 plus.
I am also not by a fan of iOS lately. iOS 15 was pretty close to perfect. Very stable, great battery life and improvements that made me enjoy the iPhone more. iOS 16 has been pretty terrible. Removing my old dynamic wallpaper, adding widgets was nice but I don't like how it is implemented. Stage Manager is useless. And now my iPhone gets about 2 days of battery life which isn't bad but it would go 3 days easy before the update and two point updates haven't changed anything.
I like airdrop, iMessage and Facetime. And the integration in all my other Apple devices. This and the flat screen are what I will miss the most and the used to be 3 day battery life. Only phone I ever had when it hit 50% I didn't worry about charging it for another day.
